Thread regarding IBM layoffs

Facebook is lightning up. Layoffs are happing or have happened. Like clock work, each quarter, end of the month. It’s clear IBM is tanking folks. Don’t wait like I did.... struggle to find good paying job when your over 55. The younger folks look at you like your a dinosaur. Many people will say they are better off after IBM , most are struggling trying to get their train back on the tracks. Very sad.

I know there's at least one name locked and loaded from overhearing his consistently loud phone conversations with my second line and my fourth line. I also know that I was at least on the candidate list, but from what he was talking about, and other evidence I don't want to give away so as to not identify myself, it sounds like he decided on someone else. I have everything ready to hit the ground running just in case.

Though you're right, I wouldn't be surprised at all if they had him cut people and then cut him right after. Can't get their own hands dirty after all.

Or 4. your manager will also be laid off so they haven't told him anything

I don't have much to offer, but:

My manager is on vacation Tuesday and Wednesday (27th and 28th). He mentioned this as of last week. To me this indicates one of a few things:

1. It's not those days

2. It is those days and he hasn't gotten word of it

3. It is those days, he knows it, and he's prepared to make some unpleasant phone calls on his vacation

I know it's not much, but maybe with other information it could potentially help...

Thanks for posting this @SnAQ8RN ! I'm sure many who have been waiting for some concrete information for the last couple of weeks, like myself, are dying from the suspense right now, and we need all IBMers to come here and pool what they know and even what they think, even when it is just "informed speculation" as you have done.

Surely some of you out there have close friends in Mgmt - pls find out what they do and don't know and report it here for the benefit of all!
