Thread regarding Chicago Bridge & Iron layoffs

Cbi. No loyalty at all 30 years no issue . Then nothing for ya , see ya good luck.

Total bull . Laid off yet the younger employee still has a job. Overloaded management , mostly paper pushers.

Somebody got severance pay? Wow there lucky.

Unbiased watch: appears the first to go are generally, contractors, recent new hires and deadwood. If you're a solid performer and there's work, should be ok, for now. No one is guaranteed a job or entitled to a paycheck. I heard- directs were given severance- one(1) weeks pay for each year service. My gut feeling, the larger 10-20% layoff will come after the buyout is complete, not sure if CBI severance will be grandfathered, McD has no package, except for higher management personnel. Previous message below has good advice- document everything told from managers & HR.

What I do not understand is they are laying off people at the Walker facility but are hiring relatives from facilities that have closed. How can that be?? Seems to me there is some type of discrimination going on. I do not understand it myself.

I volunteered to a layoff and got the severence mentioned in the other post. Back at work next week. Same pay, better drive, but more peaceful sleep. Good luck everybody. Was fun when it was a good company.

Tell HR you want the standard (secret) severance plan vs the older experienced plan. Many I know have received a better plan than you describe, but it could have been modified recently by executive action so may be not valid any more. . Did you update your health wellness 20% discount data? That potentially could be used against you and will likely form a class action suit later against the older employees (over 25 yrs +). Older employees and more importantly more meds are not good for controlling expenses. You may have been deemed expendable regardless of skills. Talk to HR and document their clarifications of policy.

I guess all that severance package story below was a planted one by the management?

Check your state and federal laws and contact an employment lawyer if you feel discriminated against and received no severance
