Oracle Won ....Google loses legal battle over Java, faces $9 billion fine

A US court has ruled that Google violated copyright law when it used computer software company Oracle's Java APIs to create the Android mobile operating system. Oracle was previously seeking $9 billion in damages when it first sued the technology giant in 2010. The case revolves around whether the programming language is covered by copyright protection.

@2acp - brilliant observation! In other words myopic and vengeful LE just scored the perfect self goal by cutting oracpenoff from the world! No wonder he purchased an island!

If Oracle wins this lawsuit, it will kill the company by setting precedent that making a compatible API is a copyright violation, blocking Oracle Cloud compatibility with AWS & Azure, DB compatibility with new APIs for node.js & go, and Linux compatibility with Unix. Might as well save time and just forward Google’s check directly to the ghosts of SCO & Novell.

Truer words were never spoken: “This is completely irrelevant whereas oracle financials and oracle’s future are concerned. A side show to soothe LE’s ego. He and DJT engage in lots of those to distract from real issues, such as lack of cloud revenue growth because Oracle doesn’t have real cloud revenues - the reported ones are 90% cloud washing.”

Google has at least two more appeals to make, so this ain't over just yet.

Not to mention the fact that the Appeals Court decision kind makes no sense.

So it seems Google is going to pay for the SUN acquisition (and then some). I'd rather they would have bought SUN instead.

Who cares even iforacle actually gets the money 10 years from now, what matters is whether oracle has competitive cloud offerings that can generate recurring revenues and grow on par with MSFT, SFDC and other real cloud companies, and the answer is a resounding NO! Oracle has f:ed itself in the cloud, very much due to the absolute brilliance of LE and TK.
