Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

New job postings

I doubt the layoff is going to be as grim as this toxic site suggests.

California just posted 4 new positions as of today.

Boulder still has 4 outstanding positions, one of which CANNOT be moved to any other location (as per the job desc.)

Layoff was clearly announced by CA in last company meeting, no secrete about it. I don’t know why lot of you are still clinging to the idea of having no layoff. Accept the hash truth and get prepared. I’m prepared.

3K-4K guarenteed - at least half of this number is SD. Entire remote offices will be wiped out.

1 Billion in savings. There is no getting around that number. Think realistically what that means.

Remember that the management guidance to shareholders includes this number in addition to a successful NXP acquisition.

In a few months to a year, factor in any "synergies" accruing from NXP acquisition.

Also factor in that management guidance to investors includes an amicable resolution to outstanding legal disputes (Mav, Chinese OEMs etc). Think about a non-zero probability that they may be wrong or optimistic - and consider what that dollar figure is and translate that to employee headcount.

And then, take your chances

Wow. 4 whole new positions.

Big companies need to "advertize" the job posting on their website and prove to Department of Labor that they did not find any competent local candidate for the job. This is required when companies file the Green Card process for an existing employee who has been on a H1B/L1 visa for a few years already and has been doing a good job.

So the postings are not "real openings" but jobs for which candidates were already hired 4-5 years ago or more, whom the managers are trying to make permanent.

I heard esin is doing an amazing job at mav. Soon mav won’t need suppliers for anything.

I agree with OP. However the fact is business is slowing. Mav just canned Intel we are probably next since esin went there. Now is good time for self preservation but not time to panic yet. What is your vision for five years from now. Find your path and go this way.

Tend to agree with OP. The layoffs do not feel they will be as bad as some predict. Could be wrong, just my gut instinct.

You do realize that companies hire as they also lay people off. Trimming worthless employees or realigning skills to future business happens all the time.

Clearly some people who post on here are doing their first rodeo.

@oxq That may not be true. They also recently opened intern positions.

Wow. 4 whole new positions. In a company of 30,000+. I'm sure the positions were created so a few internal people already identified could make their moves. HR is posting so it looks like an open process. Don't be fooled.
