Mic Drop?

Anyone else considering just plain quitting / 'retiring' = taking the 'new Plan's $ (and the tax hit) just to get the hell out from under the killer stress and constant dread? 58yo (no raises for years, more and more workload, y'all know the drill) + supported Clients would def sh-- themselves...) - looking for reasons NOT to...anyone?

Who wouldn't like to quit (or retire or volunteer for an RA) and say goodbye to all the killer stress and dread. The question is can they afford to? If they can, they should. Many already have. If they can't, they have to keep holding that mic.

I know of about 6 people in Tech Sales in the southwest who did just that, begged their management to RA them as they were going to retire in the near future but wanted to save someone elses job. They figured a small package was better than nothing.

Yes last few years everything has gone downhill fast. It's a shame use to be great place to work with so many sharp motivated people. Definitely time to bail out for me, just takes time to find something then i'm outta here! I actually came to this conclusion back in 2016 that it was time to me to leave.

I quit last year, 25 years service , most of the them very good. the last 2 years though where mostly a Nightmare, many friends/colleagues being RA'd or pushed out the door. and incompetent management moving in.. I just got Fed up of the stress, and overall pointlessness of staying. I was 53 with 2 years to go before I could/can draw on my Pension.. It's been is still a struggle but is the Best decision I ever made, staying would have put $'s in my pocket but the stress of the job and not knowing of I would have a job next qtr was taking years of my life... so not worth it..

If I were 58 years old and presumably had saved/invested enough to be able to retire, and if I were in the US where you only get 4 weeks severance pay and no recourse, and if I were sick and tired of my job, I would absolutely quit and forgo the four weeks.

That said I am in Canada where, if you are not a fearful sheep like most employees are, you can hire a lawyer and fight for about 1 month of pay per year of service up to a total of 24 months. I hear that fight might last a year or two, but definitely worth it if you can collect those two years pay at the end (minus 30% for the lawyer on contingency ).
