Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

Is Intel a better place to go after Q

I have offer from Intel, but going to work with same old Q guys. In past, i felt very uncomfortable working with those PEs, but given current situation in Q, not sure about i can wait some more time for good one or not...honest feedback please.

Instead of intel, worth to wait for good ones like apple, Google, FB.... Q is not a bad choice, we have good engineers with innovative mindsets, but bad management. Still a chance that we can turnaround the company if we are able to get a new visionary CEO.

I heard from many Intel folks saying none of Q guys achived anything so far other than bullying and putting old intel people under bus. It may be a just matter of time MR gang can get into trouble. We know how they did in Q.

I don't suggest joining any of MR groups, but other groups are doing pretty good like Automotive, AI etc...

I worked at Intel for about 10 years before moving to Qualcomm, at the Oregon site. I did work with the folks at the San Diego site. I will agree with the comments above, the site is there to hire Qualcomm folks, Intel salaries are lower than Q, it is not a strong site compared to the main Santa Clara campus, Intel has never done mobile well, and Apple is the only thing supporting that group right now. I moved here for the San Diego location.

The best thing about Intel is probably the sabbatical which is after 7 years of service. The current CEO is not the best, he has several new rules which impacted my co-workers who were laid off one of which doesn't allow for laid off employees to ever come back for life or until a new CEO changes the rule. There was more RD before BK, which was one of the reasons I left not enough supported training, classes or projects to do path finding.

Intel SD soaked up a LOT of people who couldn‘t make it at Q for various reasons. I knew several people who went there, and nobody was sad when they left. Intel salaries are low compared to Q, so nobody would have gone there for career reasons.

Also, from what I heard, SD is not considered a „strong“ site within Intel, and they are still not accepted as a part of the greater team due to a lot of site politics, infighting and deliverables of questionable quality. That is just a second-hand rumor, but it‘s something you hear a lot about that site.

If you want to leave Q, there are far better places than Intel in SD. Have some personal and professional pride and don‘t jump in the trash can for Q rejects. If you really want to join Intel, consider Santa Clara.

Is this the 3rd or 4th time they have come to SD to try and do mobile?

Sounds like a solid choice.

You better to wait for good one if you're not in a hurry, it's not a sustainable place.Location please?
