Layoffs will continue for weeks

CenturyLink Inc. has started laying off hundreds of employees companywide in cuts that will continue in coming weeks as the telecom adopts new technology and streamlines following last year's merger with Level 3 Communications.

I'm in my mid 30s. Ethernet provisioning tech III. Colorado based. Got laid off on 5/11. Earlier in the week the new manager said "don't worry, there's plenty of work for us".

Was told the severance pkg was undecided at the time of my exit interview. That it would be mailed to me. As far as I know, I was the only one on my team laid off. Had a disciplinary action against me some months ago for vehemently voicing my displeasure with our processes and direction. I feel I was canned because of that.

Laid off due to “budget”along with all of the other administrative staff a few weeks ago. My team is also losing all contract field techs, as well as the air pressure team. The managers that haven’t had a nervous breakdown are being told to absorb the work.....

Complete garbage!!!!

I agree as management side that All employees are treated poorly but cuts obliterate support of applications and fail to support much needed work. They can pay for vendor support at high cost but not for employees that did the work. It is merely to rid company of older and sometimes disabled or ill imployees. Most oldest of each group were targeted despite no one to perform the work. This might be cost saving but worst planned i have ever seen. I feel sorry for those left.

A very disorganized and now understaffed company. Our department gets overworked and do not see any light. Not approving any OT that is needed. Management behaving as everything is normal. If I could find a better opportunity, I would love to leave. It is hard for me and have to be selective due to being married and have kids. Working for this disorganized company just makes me worry financially everyday. CEOs getting a good bonus yet we do not get anything.

its all for the survival of the company nothing personal , that is what they always say " nothing against you personally " Oh and good luck , hope you have 6 months pay saved and try to find someone who likes to hire people over 50 , try Homedepot ! maybe you should sell your house ...nothing personal ..it just business...or how bout Wind turbine technician ? can you climb a 300 foot ladder ? it all inside the tower , oh yeah they dont hire people " of a certain age "....

I knew we were doomed when they quit cleaning the buildings and we had to start bringing toilet paper and trash bags from home and emptying our own trash a year ago. I bet the corporate buildings aren't hig pens like the local reporting center and CO's are. Three urinals at our one report center and two have been broke since last year. Maybe when all thre are broken they may fix one.

In my opinion, anyone who is a legacy Centurylink employee and is over 50 should be seeking other employment. I know i am because it would not be a surprise to get the ax. They don't care about experience in the field, just the bottom line.

Cuts hitting IT in Monroe too. Got the ax today, last day 5/18. Mixed feelings. Certainly think I'll make more money somewhere else, but you always hate to move your family.
