Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

Should I accept new job offers or wait for package ?! Serious input please

My group is not impacted this round but sad to see many folks left last Friday. I have been with the group for more than 13yrs and they are great people.

My group is top heavy, at a remote site and with a lot of high performers. Management know that so they push us to do more work while building more folks in low cost centers.

I am a high performer so they wouldn't laid me off or accept my volunteering for package.

Hello all, @T2TIUjg-tjp yet again:

I finally dismiss letus leave due to E coli breakout. I switch to arugula and I'm out of trubled now!

Hello all, @T2TIUjg-tjp again

I mentioned the 25k bonus check but forgot to mention that also my rsu's which were worth 125 k vested too. Just wanted to make sure you understand I was really that kind of high performance engineer. I left because I was making more than my lead (I saw his paycheck on the printer think he was applying some loan of some type). I knew I was in some sorta trubled.

Not everyone is as good as me, so I was thinking letus leave. All stcoks vested and cash bonus received, wth.

Please discuss with your manager about your immediate and career goals and future prospects. Don’t listen to these losers here.

Let’s do it and achieve !

Talk to HR to get an earlier termination date. So you get your package and start your new job. Thats what I was told by my HR rep when i asked.

Thank you for all the valuable insights and reassurances. I agree it's best to make a move now and ditch the "package". Its much easier to find a job while you are still employed.

I am sad that I will be leaving folks whom I worked together for years (that's the prime reason I am staying) but I would rather to hang out with them after works.

Its not worth to stay while other company offers much more interesting work, respect for remote teams, and much better prospect to advance my career ( from technical point of view not title ).

Thanks folks for the serious inputs. My best wishes for folks who got impacted this round and folks who decided to stay.

I am bailing out.

I left Q after the last $25k bonus showed up in my checking account. Had a depending offer just waiting for the last drop out of this poised well. Got a hike and better career scope. I made a similar question here and some folks put good insights. Waiting for a package is a scenario only for folks retiring, if you are not in this category, get the hell out of this place dominated by colluded Indians and corrupted execs (including Jacobs family donors of all sort of twisted left ideology). Sometimes I think that Q is paying for what it deserves. Terrible bill for employees left behind.

I left Q seven months ago, started looking when it was clear that Q was going into "company with regular layoff mode".

I make less money now, but I work 40 hours, not 60+, and weekend work is rare rather than the norm.

Plus, as a white guy I had no hope of advancement to director at Q, my current company I am on that path.

Get out while you can, opportunity is getting less and less.

High performer. Check. 13 years service. Check. Remote site. Check. You are prime layoff material. Should you wait for a package? That depends on how long you think it might take you to get another job, allowing for the worst case, in a general downturn.

@rwr I hope your wife and children know that all that motivates you is your personal gain. Oh wait... you are alone! Well, good for humanity!

@wyy So money is all that is important for you? Money is all that motivates you? Who is the dic---ad who was dumb enough to hire you?

@OP Have a look around you and decide if you are happy with Q‘s company culture. Do you get up in the morning, happy to go to work? Do you leave with a sense of satisfaction in the evening? Do you feel valued? Do you feel respected? Do you have interesting tasks and a clear perspective that you can continue working on them? That‘s what is really important.

People who wait for packages are waiting to be paid to leave the company. That doesn‘t sound idiotic to you? People who are motivated only by money are usually easily replacable people. People who are intrinsically motivated are difficult to replace and paradoxically end up being the highest earners.

  1. calculate your yearly income if you stay(including bonus/vesting/retention) etc.

  2. if you accept the offer now is it greater than 1. ?

  3. if yes, is the company you would be joining would grow at higher rate than qcom?

  4. if yes switch else stay

note perfect situation of getting package from qcom and getting joining bonus/hike at other may not arise. Don't try to optimize it.
