Thread regarding TJX Cos. layoffs

TJX to lay off 500

company wide mantatory meeting 5/10 @ 9am ...500 cuts is the word

Any more info on this? My dad works at TJX, it'd be good to know in advance if there is a chance he's going to be shown the door. From what I've heard, recently it's usually been the older employees that are laid off.

I just found out about this, many of my friends were laid off, as someone who worked there they were great people. This is a dumb decision by TJX

With 30 days to go. The training is draining!!! 30+ years of knowledge cramed down their throats. Thats what they want. They think they'll successfully continue as business as usual. Good luck with that. It won't happen. There's too much to absorb. We're not even doing face to face training. All done thru web. What are they thinking???

The lay-off will affect many. In this economy, it is important to remember that Cognizant is incorporated in the United States. I understand the frustration but it is meant to allow TJX to concentrate on their core business and that is NOT IT.

The thing I find interesting is that a company would trust their internal workings and propriety information to contractors that go from company to company...their competitors. They have no allegiance to TJX . They are paying to have TJX internal information delivered to competitors. Very strategic.

Yes it is true. With record profits, I guess they just couldn't afford it. I know companies want to make the most money possible, but it is sad that Ernie Herrman does not care about the community that helped build and support them. Working overtime and weekends with no compensation for it to help them make this move quicker. I wish more good people were in positions of power in this country, but that's just not the case. All we can do is not support their business and shop elsewhere.

To Any Mouse:

It was Cognizant, of course.

Didn’t the same thing happen at Pepsi? Oh shocking! But different business. Same IT leader but completely different business should be interesting to say the least. When IT takes down the company and we are all witnessing. Where is Pete L and Ben and seniors above this pepsi guy?

Not all managers were retained. And like all companies, they exist to make money. It is really sad and awful that so many are displaced and only about 50 positions will be opened with the outsource company. Similar restructuring occurred 2 years ago in May as well. I may not boycott but I certainly am not going out of my way to shop TJs, Marshalls, HomeGoods, Homesense, or Sierra Trading Post any time soon.

Didn't Liberals, Progressives, and Democrats insist for years that we are one big family, borders are meaningless, immigrants should be welcomed, and to thing globally but act locally?

How's their strategy working out for you?

The worst part is that they did this after benefiting from the Tax cut that was intended to bolster US workers, they made money on the front and the back. Wish they would lose that tax cut for this!

Over 20 years at TJX, not one issue, ever. When they want you out, expect the full court press, shameful. If you get package, consider yourself lucky and move on. I too will never walk into one of those stores. Not the company Ben built.

Well, if any of you took the time to Google this issue you would see that, though they are hiring outside companies for IT, they expect most of those laid off to be offered positions with those companies. Do not sign their death warrant and definitely DO NOT BOYCOTT, this was a business decision and a good one at that!

Very sad, I experienced this with another company, gave 100% of myself and still got laid off as jobs went to India.

Very sad to see people who have been there anywhere from 5-25 years + be phased out. New guy on the block is actually pretty blind to the actual workings of the business, good salesman and b---s--- artist though, should be interesting to see how the customers and vendors enjoy dealing with the future support of non primary English speaking reps. We all learn our lessons... But money talks I guess. And saving money actually matters more than providing end users and customers with exceptional support. Making cuts in all the wrong places. Companies do best when they have people who are invested in them, temps and contractors could care less... Wake up!

We will see TJmaxx and HomeGoods in the same scenario as Sears and Kmart in no time. Reputation is everything.

I personally will never purchase anything from them or their affiliates ever again. And I will encourage everyone I personally know not to as well. But I am just one person. Corporate America... Just tosses people to the curb when they are done... I'm so surprised... I thought they were different... Wrong again.

There is truth in the rumor. A member of our family was laid off from the IT department today. Final day is August 31.

Layoffs are just starting. Big PR for the token $100 401k contribution then cut a ton of jobs...in quite the heartless dramatic fashion. Company is in trouble.

Mangers were kept though...
