Is State Farm Able to Retain Internal Java Developers?

I see a lot of posts on this board saying that Java developers are needed in State Farm. I heard about an incident in ECRM where State Farm is loosing internal Java developers because they can't deal with the incompetence of the H1B Visa developers.

Has anyone heard of internal java developers leaving?

Are the external developers really as bad as the stereotype? (Type in "Indian programmers are " in google and see what auto complete says)

Anyone heard of internals who can't make it because of the unhealthy coding practices of H1Bs and State Farm?

I have reported poor performing externals with hard dollar examples of what they have cost the company. They were removed from the state farm contract.

You seem to have no concept of how the free market works.

Are you suggesting that State Farm's lawyers shouldn't make the going rate for lawyers? Or that other roles shouldn't have pay governed by supply and demand market forces like at every other company in America?

I mean, I know you're just trolling, since you rolled this lame comment out at least once before and you get a kick out of posting things that are flat out ridiculous just to get someone to type in the "captain obvious" rebuttal, so here's your response, troll.

If poor performing externals are retained, that just shows a lack of leadership from level 3-4 developers and first line managers.

I respectfully disagree that poor performing externals are released. I've worked with some for a number of years who never perform as needed...and apparently never get incentive to change.

As review of their performance isn't included as part of the transformation, many will be getting SF money after internals are let go.

If ECRM can't retain Java developers, it's probably due to Sales Force. Just being within 10 feet of a Sales force implementation can give a person hives. What a sh-- stain product.

Definitely, I also think IT analyst is a pretty dumb job title. The job titles in systems are a sticking point for some potential hires. I've heard of ETL devs shying away because they don't want to be called Data Analysts.

Some of those IT analysts are underpaid too. I was a tech/app arch. After I left SF in mid-march, I had 3 interviews and 2 offers within 6 weeks, and both offers were significantly higher than what I was making at State Farm.

I made 110K at State Farm.

My first offer was for 140K + Bonus + Stock options at a potential upcoming IPO.

The offer I accepted was 128K, plus they pay 100% of medical insurance premiums.

Both amount to a lot more jack than I was making at State Farm.

So I'd say State Farm is underpaying SKILLED people across the board -- meaning people who have legitimate IT skills.

I work in a area with more external developers than internals, and it works.

JOPs for internal developers didn't produce enough qualified candidates. The quality varies with externals, so poor performing externals are released, and the work moves forward.

Also, I'm not saying It analysts are overpaid, many of those positions require a lot of institutional knowledge you can't hire off the street, just that some devs are underpaid

Since the title changed from Systems Analyst to Software Developer-OO a few years ago. They still are RE though. Many IT analyst positions don't even map to anything in the industry, but you have Java devs earning $75k here that could get 6 figs easily at a consulting firm

I think they just dont pay as much at SF. It's weird that object oriented devs/engineers are on the same pay scale as IT Analysts. Now that they have a huge presence out in the hubs, they can get a little entry level experience at SF then bounce. It's not like BLM where they are the only show in town.

I have heard of Java devs moving to the hubs from Bloomington, staying long enough so they don't have to repay relocation costs, and leaving for higher pay. In Bloomington Java devs tend to stay with SF for a long time.

As for external devs there are good ones and bad ones, just as with internals.
