Thread regarding Devon Energy Corp. layoffs

Losing good people

As of now we’ve lost 50+ technical staff (eng/geo/land) since the layoffs. They are quitting, going elsewhere. What is HR/mgmt doing to combat this? That’s right....nothing.

This place is toxic. The ship is sinking. Majority of my team is interviewing elsewhere.

Enjoy the automation. Maybe the cost savings will increase ROR. Hopefully you don’t want to do actual E&P.

If someone can answer what the SVPs actually do everyday besides walk around in horribly tailored suits, I’ll meet you in the rotunda and give you $200

Sacked, you got it right. We were fired. Not "let go". Not riffed or downsized. Severance package is nothing compared to having that gap on the resume you have to explain.

All because management and HR dont have the skills or guts to reassign assets to new areas to make money for Devon. Firing hundreds of highly trained people to please wallstreet analysts, thats a chicken sh#t way out.

I was laid off in the April 26th group after 11 years at Devon. After the initial shock, I have felt nothing but peace and relief from that toxic environment. I just accepted a great job at another E&P company here in town. If you are unhappy and can see that Devon’s best years are in the past, do something about it. Take control of your life and stop being complacent and b--chy! Trust me when I say the air is a lot fresher when you leave that tower for good!

I was fired from Devon, it took some time but I have a great job know in the oil and gas industry and don’t have all the meaningless BS to spend time on that was pushed down providing no value. I was with Devon long enough I was in a mind paralysis I wasn’t admitting to that I went to work did my job as best I could but was numb to what job enjoyment felt like. I’m glad I’m gone and miss the early years but the last 5-7 really started a downward spiral as a company. Good Luck to all you greenhorns your going to need it.

Our BU VP basically said that DVN is counting on attrition so that we dont have to have anymore layoffs. Translated: "it is horrible now and will remain horrible until 2020, we plan to fix nothing. Now let's get back to having fun!" (Didn't translate that last part)

Just to be clear, this is Health& Safety Manager. I have been groomed for this, so dont bother applying. No, i dont have military experience, but neither does the VP! He just went to the academy.

Another 2 week notice in my group today. My managers reaction....I know there is more coming.

Also for those that didn’t know, interns this summer will get 0 full time offers. They are just doing it for experience. And next year.........no interns.

For every engineer that leaves, 5 are waiting for their chance to fill in and make a mark. Musical chairs.

This place has become much like the YouTube sensation “Refined”. Watch season 1episode 1 and you’ll know all you need to know. Come in birdseed...

“Look sharp it’s a red hat”

“Wonder what this pig nosed mofo wants”

The SVP’s take the fecal matter from the toilets of hard working employees, throw it on the wall and see what sticks... well, they don’t actually do that, they have managers that do it for them. They just tell them to do it and report back in strategy meetings so as to keep their hands clean of any contamination from the unclean. I will be in the rotunda standing on the integrity this place used to have and collect my $200 at 12
