Thread regarding State Farm Insurance layoffs

Automation and Arificial Intellignece

Play 2020 - if you haven't heard about SF"s plans to automate work and introduce artificial intelligence to replace human labor you may want to inquire about it a bit. Ask about how many job positions SF is planning to eliminate (a ton) and what areas will become more AI if compared to others.

True AI simply does not exist. Not yet.

And about the only meaningful "Soft AI" we have is "machine learning," which is for the most part a nonsense buzzword. Are there meaningful examples of machine learning (which isn't TRUE AI) replacing human workers? Probably, but I'm not inclined to believe press releases or claims from the PR departments of various companies. I've been too close to this part of the IT industry for too long to take any of these claims seriously at present.

Never mind about State Farm's completely inability to make anything happen in terms of meaningful IT transformation, and I'd say this is a laughable pipe dream.

The competition is way ahead of SF on this. Allstate CEO today is quoting that they have eliminated 550 auto adjusters with AI. Farmers is making great strides according to their CIO.

Our ET is the Amish of the insurance industry. No innovation, no insight, no energy. For awhile they had an unlimited budget which didn’t help, then unlimited resources which didn’t help either. It is not really funny but we are so far behind that ET thinks they are in the lead!

Jesus Christ I can’t stop laughing at this. You are serious? Were you there for CDE or whatever other name it went by? Until you get a host of new leadership in Systems there is a snowballs chance in Hell of this. OMG! I’m surprised they have the skills to turn on their vehicles and navigate them out of the parking lot.

OMG ARE YOU SERIOUS? We can’t even integrate software. No way they could full automate claims. Technology in this company is like 8 years behind the industry. We talk about communicating with the customers the way they want and we can’t even text them. What a JOKE

It's the dream. They already behave like their work force is made completely of automatons today. They will use up a human being until they break (i.e. work and wear them down to mental exhaustion), and then just replace them with another.

No need to ask. AI was a pipe dream for over 15 years. They woukd eliminate all jobs IF they could. The pace is picking up
