Thread regarding General Electric Co. layoffs

GE instituted just in time parts system that also failed.

Just in time parts system failed also because the parts were never on time and they never had an inventory of extra parts if the parts were bad.

GE hired experts to tell them how to do it. They paid consultants huge money. Then to nobody’s surprise they turned around and ignored all their advice. You can’t have just in time delivery when your suppliers are a world away. Also they told them to focus on quality suppliers because the final cost of bad quality was so high it could not be calculated. Basically GE buys parts that are the cheapest and damn the quality or distance. Then they wonder why the parts are bad and never on time. Amazingly (or not) the geniuses that run the company haven’t figured this out yet.

The only way to get this system to work efficiently is to apply the doctrine of backstabbing. Results will improve dramatically.
