Thread regarding Mildred Elley layoffs

People leaving

More people leaving. Surprise, surprise. Dr. H, Dr. M, the CS leader, the bookstore lady. If they can only take me. This place isn't horrible.

It is NOT a bait and switch. It is an OPPORTUNITY to get into an LPN program once the student demonstrates academic competence in the coursework. If the students lack the academic muster to make it through the LPN program, they (rightly) should not be admitted to LPN. Further, ME is giving the students who dont make it in the opportunity to earn a marketable credential in Medical Assisting. Do traditional colleges do this? No. No, they do not. I commend ME for maintaining these standards. It is by far more ethical and in the students' best interest. These students would likely fail the licensure examination after spending all that money on an LPN credential. Further, do you want an LPN who failed the coursework administering medical care to your loved one? I don't. Students are disappointed that they dont make it. Some transfer that feeling of failure (which is all too familiar to many of them (sadly)) to the program and the school. Help them through this dark time...help them change their lives. That is your job. Many of the students have little experience in finding opportunities in what they consider to be failures. You need to help them find their way.

I agree with original post. I’ve spoken to administration and they don’t listen. I e tried a few times. Now I just focus on students who get ripped off and do my best with them. The MA to LPN is a typical bait and switch!

The place is what YOU make it. Make it a better place. Help your campus president and work with him instead of complaining about what you perceive as wrong. Work together to make it better. You are there to help students change their lives for the better. That is the mission of the school and your responsibility as a professional who has accepted a position with the school. You will never go wrong making decisions that put the students first...and the Administration will listen...Be part of the solutionand present your ideas. Remember that this may be a students ONLY chance to change the course of his/her life. It is a great responsibility.
