Apparently, there is a new vision in place from JC that avoids product overlap and focuses on a single data protection product going ahead. Clearly not all of Avamar, NetWorker and eCDM would continue to be developed. That would be a big impact to existing customers, not to mention sales and channel teams that have been involved in promoting the existing products for so long.

The last time JC had a relevant vision Dell was still integrating 386 uP's in their clunky platforms. He has no idea, nor do most of the people left at Dell understand what it takes to build a storage solution that companies will buy.
Data protection probably has the least amount of overlap in the portfolio, the storage bucket is chock full of overlapping/competing products. Lots of pruning could be done across multiple product lines but probably won't due to management preserving their fiefdoms and not wanting to pi$$ of customers.
