BP to cut around 540 upstream jobs by Allister Thomas 22/05/2018, 1:57 pm

BP has confirmed it plans to cut around 540 jobs from its global upstream business.

It is not known how many North Sea jobs will be affected but BP said the 540 roles represent around 3% of its global upstream workforce of 18,000.

Staff were told of the plans earlier today.

A spokeswoman said: “BP has today informed staff of planned organizational changes in its upstream business regions worldwide, aimed at further improving the efficiency and competitiveness of its organization.”

Trying to promote people retiring from bp as evidence of layoffs in the oil industry is total fake news.

Especially as the industry has turned around and companies are showing good profits and projects all over the world starting up again.

Here in Baker we are preparing for this upturn and will be hiring again very soon. So let’s have real news on here and no more of this made up fake scare stories.

I can only imagine this guy got laid off by Baker because he wasn’t able to distinguish between fantasy and reality

How is it fake news it's in today's Aberdeen paper! And it has alot to do with BHGE as a client of ours in Aberdeen and worldwide.

Its showing that even at 70/80/90 dollars a barrel companys are still paying off large numbers of staff and this will keep happing for years to come.

They have also announce that they are going to move to a 3 and 3 rotation.

This will also mean when they do that hundreds more will go as the work 2 and 4 just now.

All you bellexds typing fake news ECT just sums up how little a clue you have to what's going on in the industry you work in but that's the problem with BHGE these days and why the company is in such bad state.

The industry is far from finished paying off and cutting pay and you need to accept that.

This article has nothing to do with Baker or Aberdeen so what is it’s relevance?

These are people who are retiring from the company and other projects coming to an end.

Totally irrelevant article for a Baker site and fake news once again
