Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Where did all the tools go?

Shaking my damn head thinking about how just 5 years ago we had so many different Nextec and c3 tools and now we have almost nothing.

Drills and a few saws that’s it. And yet we still sell some of them in combo sets.

Can someone please tell me why this is happening, it’s killing our sales.

No money in the budget for new batteries, nor is there time to replace hundreds of batteries.

@env "Either they defeat the spider wraps or the batteries are dead in those spider wraps, because they're at least 15 years old. "

The batteries are replaceable in some models of spider wraps, FWIW. Just takes a screwdriver and a pack of the appropriate size of button battery.

the result of this thread is clearly that all of the tools went to two stores , now let's see if we can send all of those evil orange desk chairs with buttons to those two stores . Associates will be able to glide around their sales floor while waiting for tools from your store to fill the spaces from sales .

@TkSoDfX-vjx We are also going to a tools reset and guess what? We got a lot of hours the past 2 weeks and the following week hours went to crap. Basically they didn't give us enough hours to work on the whole reset. We probably got as far as 25 percent of the whole project (thats because our dumb SM doesn't think and wants things to look so perfect when we don't have the damn time and killed so much time). Not only that so much missing merchandise that makes us look like we are about to close since all we get asked is are we closing since we arent well stocked.

You know things are REALLY BAD when even the third-rate Chinese suppliers cut back on us.

What are the holidays going to be like this year? Not just tools, but other categories.

Softlines is pretty thin in men's, kids and juniors.

Appliances appears well stocked but so many things are pushed out for several weeks or a month or are flat out unavailable. When did I experience this before? (hint: I worked in Electronics before moving to Appliances). What happened in Electronics before it was taken out of the store? You couldn't order anything. Nothing was in stock or on the shelves except for the really basic, cheap, low-end crap.

Now, what are the two biggest reasons people come to Sears? APPLIANCES. TOOLS. If people show up for those reasons and can't get what they want or need in a timely fashion or at all, what happens? They go somewhere else.

I think this time around, it won't be those two categories disappearing in the way Electronics did. It will just be the entire company, or at least the entire store base.

I went in to a Sears store recently...very sad....I think I have more tools at home in my shop than they had on their shelves....and this supposed to be one of the "better" Sears stores still around.

No available funds to bring in more product.... Vendors won't ship product to Sears if Sears can't pay for it up front.

At our store, it wouldn't make the slightest difference if we had tools or not. They just get stolen anyway.

About 50% of our power tools end up stolen, and yes, they have spider wraps. Im sure a ton of little, pocketable things like screwdrivers or wrenches get stolen too.

We took it up a notch and threaded the spider wrapped boxes of high value through a locking peg. I'd like to think that it stopped the theft but it hasn't, because now they cut the spider wraps loose.

Either they defeat the spider wraps or the batteries are dead in those spider wraps, because they're at least 15 years old.

It also doesn't help the situation when tools is staffed with just one person per shift with very little overlap, so shoplifters are left to their own devices, and legitimate customers never get any help.
