Unfortunately all it took for the company to break the union was to scare them that if they didn't vote the tier system in all work would go overseas and they have all the workers a cash bonus. It was sad and pathetic, 6 years later from the agreement = 1. Work still went overseas 2.Mass layoffs(mostly all. Tier 2) 3. No new product lines. Only 1 thing stayed from the competitive wage agreement and that's the tier system. If you sell your soul at least make sure the devil holds up his end of the deal.

How did this conversation turn into a battle between 1 and 2 tier? What are you trying to prove? If the seniority didn't care, then how did the 2nd tier come to be in that facility? Was it voted in or did the committee make the decision? I cant imagine any facility that has the 2nd tier wouldn't have protective language, which would send the 2nd tier packing first in a layoff event, regardless of department?? No 2nd tier here, just curious how other people are dealing or have dealt with this...

Love reading comments from people who want the tier 2 to work harder so the tier 1 and bloated lean teams and managers can stay retired on the job. Open your eyes tier 2, these people don't give sh*t about you and they definitely don't care about the business, they have been protecting their own interests for years. Don't be a pawn when they start that we need to come together and work harder nonsense.

How about the union workers in Schenectady get off their rear ends and start working. Instead of talking about what if’s, why don’t you show GE you know what a hard days work is.

Great news. It is about time we had more layoffs as I was having a hard time figuring out how us Executives were going to get our next round of bonuses and stock options.

Richmond, VA. Ex-Alstom facility makes more sense.

Salem site already turning into storage facility. It's sad to see this place die a slow death. But with this current management it's to be expected. No surprises @ this facility.

I doubt it’s any of Schenectady, Greenville or Salem. More than likely they will combine some of the smaller facilities that duplicate processes. All 3 of the above are unique in their own way.

Hard to see Schenectady shut down as they are moving Alstom products there. Greenville is the GT center and I don't see them moving GT to NY so it could be the Salem facility.

I was in a meeting with a senior leader in Power about a month ago and also heard this. My guess is Schy closing.
