Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

Age of those laid off

What's the situation this time regarding the age of those laid off?

Does it look like the layoff is based on merit or once again on getting rid of older employees who make more money than Dell is willing to pay for those jobs anymore?

I hope we can get some info on the age of those who were shown the door, just to get a better picture of what's going on.

Age is I believe a big factor as well as salary. I am on a PiP and have performed no worse and in fact better than most of my younger peers in sales but I am at 4 level and 64 so guess who they are targeting. Then on top of it they put me on the PIP move me to a new territory, and then almost double the quarterly number the minute I am in place for no reason just because Dell is a slimy, unethical company who thinks that hiding in Texas means they can' t get their asses sued. Guess what I am old, had a better track record than others and still will be gone they made sure of that but this time I ve got a lawyer and I am going after the bastards if for no other reason than to piss them off. I am done in the industry anyway... no civil suit going to the State Labor Relations Board .

when reviewing who to cut is not done by merit and yall complaining about too many numbers. There you go. Everyone is biased and not everyone knows how to read numbers. So ageism happens. If by merit it will be interesting. At least something to back the decisions. It can be as innocent as that older workers have higher post and higher salary and in redundant transactional operational department that are easily replaced.

I'm 63 and got wacked on Wednesday. No special compensation package for us 'senior Dell employees' . Strange being forced into retirement. I'll never find a job in high tech again. 'Welcome to Walmart'...

Not one thing, expect combination of my age 60, high salary..formula.. 60 + high salary = boot out the door..

It wasn’t age, it was seniority? Wow, that’s even more comforting a reason given everyone laid off was dedicated and competent. No sense being loyal to Dell. Fear the promotion.

Age was not a factor on the Dell MRES side. Perhaps seniority. EQL Sustaining Engineering in NDC and FluidFS Sustaining in ADC. Dying product lines that will be taking yet another dive in support quality.

Age discrimination has some real potential in MRES for sure but it will take competent legal counsel to determine if it makes sense to pursue. Companies like Dell with something to hide count on compartmentalized WFRs to obfuscate their actions. However internet sites like this have the potential to subvert that and connect people to the resources they need to challenge the injustices. I would encourage competent, capable and interested labor law counsel to post their contact info here in case "victims" who read this would like to contact and consult.

I don't age mattered this time around. Pretty the entire office in Burlington(Ontario) was let go and that included people from 25 to 55.

as long as they stay under the WARN requirements, I think, they don't have to disclose age breakdowns
