How does one share of IBM in 2012 fare in comparison since RAmetty took over as CEO?
IBM : Stocks: - 14% | div collected : $30.72 | stock repurchases: $52B | Market Cap: - 35%
ORCL: Stocks: + 76% | div collected : $ 3.29 | stock repurchases: $60B | Market Cap: + 56%
MSFT: Stocks: +315% | div collected : $ 8.14 | stock repurchases: $49B | Market Cap: +267%
IBM is not keeping up with the tech industry at all.
The $52B USD spent on stock repurchases only went to financial engineering EPS and stock grants for management. Investors will be better off if IBM raised the dividends and scaled back on repurchases. In fact, if IBM doubled the dividends investor's one share of IBM in 2012 will only be breaking even today.
Strategic Imperatives, Watson Health, Blockchain, all the $1B+ USD acquisitions under RAmetty's watch, and stock repurchases are colossal failures, they did nothing to move the needle for the IBM company. IBM should do its investors a big favor, stop the stock repurchases, just pay out the cash in dividends.
The problem is at the top, while employees are getting laid off and investors are getting ripped off.
