Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

I could deal with layoffs...

...if they actually got rid of the right people. What we are seeing on nearly weekly bases is some of the best employees being cut from the company over and over again.

We are already seeing that reflect in Oracle's results, and yet there is no indication that the failing strategy will chance any time soon.

It's mind boggling...

Managers NEVER get laid off in development. This NEEDS to change.

Wouldn't Oracle save a lot more money by laying off the management and replacing them with cheap copies in India? The directors in development make a lot more than the engineers. Could save a lot more money that way and still keep the better developers in the U.S.

Everything is about cost cutting not revenue growth. They only want to keep people that are focused on pure cost cuts and cost controls. They don’t care about people anymore. You will see yoy revenue declines going forward.

You can say this again. They prefer to have staff who does what it is told of them. If they at all feel threatened by a high performer or high paid employee, they find a reason to let them go.

"They are the "country clubbers". They work with the "country clubber" managers to make sure they don't have to do anything. People who are doing actual work are a threat to the "country club" lifestyle at Oracle. The goal is NOT to get work done, the goal is to figure out how to work the system to get paid for doing nothing."

This is very true of the hw service group at Oracle I am working at.

If you are one of the better developers, you need to get your sh-- together and get a real job. Your skills are wasted at Oracle and they are becoming out-dated while you sit an wait.

There are good jobs on the outside with other people like you, who actually care about what you do at work.

As I was provided my boxes and walked out the door, many of low productivity and older skill sets remained.

The good workers will always be the ones picked to go, at least until it all collapses due to overwhelming incompetence and finally complete lack of customers. Oracle would have collapsed years ago if they didn't have customers hooked on a database they feel they cannot replace.

The management is so unbelievably stupid, that they don't understand there is any difference between technical skills between one person and another. They think they can replace a skilled, intelligent and knowledgeable developer with 5 clueless people in India and be better off.

Traces of autism in the management. Simple thought ..... 5 is bigger than 1.... so that must be better.... and I can get rid of that "know-it-all" person who makes me look bad at the same time.

The upper level managers don't pick the people who go. They pass the task down to the appropriate group manager to pick someone and those people pass the task down to the immediate managers to pick the person to go from the group.

Those lower level managers are incompetent idiots with severe ego problems. They keep the other idiots around them that never question them and get rid of the people who know what they are doing, because they are a threat to the manager's ego and a threat to the manager's yes-men.

So long as the incompetent management is never replaced, they will continue to get rid of anyone who is an immediate threat to them. They are not thinking long term, they are just thinking "who makes me look bad" at the moment.

The best people tend to make the higher salaries so they have a target on their back.

I agree! As I was provided my boxes and walked out the door, many of low productivity and older skill sets remained. It seems that upper managers who know nothing about the people lower ranked in the organization just throw the dice on who stays, who goes. I don't think they even bother to review the profiles in Aria that would give them a hint of the talent and knowledge and effectiveness of those who drew "the short straw".

Much talent out the door. Oracle as a decent tech corporation is of the past.
