Thread regarding Enbridge Inc. layoffs

Voluntary layoffs

Has anyone raised their hand to be laid off? If so, how did it work out for you?

Had a fellow worker that would take my place and they would not let him. and never asked anybody that could have retired. I was older saved them money by getting rid of me. so much for the Enbridge family bull they feed you.

Personal hygiene and laundry are not priorities when you have to work 24/7.

Curious that more than just a few of them have the same problem. It is likely a work-life balance issue or an affordability issue as most of them seem to be in reasonably good health (aside from the smokers).

The Bain dbags with their BO and halitosis. Wonder if the fumes eminating from their bodies impair their cognitive functioning.

It depends what you mean by “voluntary”. There is no official early retirement deal or deal to get severance for leaving on your own. There’s sh-- about this on the Elink.. it’s a FAQ (haha). Less officially, yeah, of course you can tell your people leader you wouldn’t mind being laid-off and you may get your wish! I know 3 people who were within months of retirement and their people leader approached them and asked some hypotheticals about being laid-off. Financially, they were all better off being laid-off, and said they were fine with it. A few weeks later, they got laid-off as part of one of those big cross-company reductions. In those cases, however, it’s not like they got to negotiate and they were ultimately escorted out by security just like everyone else. It seems super stupid to me from a business standpoint... paying severance to people who were about to leave on their own just to hit reduction numbers dreamt up by some Bain dbag in Calgary. And from the employees’ standpoint, why not let them retire with a little dignity? Record it a layoff if you wish, but let them have their cake and coffee party. Enbridge is infinitely frustrating. Anyway, I also know a couple high performers who are in their 30s who basically told their people leaders that they will leave if things don’t improve, and they have avoided layoffs so far. So you may not always get what you want. One final tip though, remember a lot of terminations come with severance too... LOL

Enbridge welcomes and encourages voluntary layoffs. Makes it easier for them to meet their targets.

I know of a couple who made it known to their leaders so the decision was easier once they had to make cuts in the department.

I've not heard of anybody being able to volunteer - otherwise, there would be just the worst workers left.
