Thread regarding Uber layoffs

Uber layoffs July 2018

So, looks like self-driving segment of Uber is in trouble, which I believe is really good news for us.

I'm sorry for the 100 or so people who were laid off, but this means the company's plans to get rid of all the drivers down the road has been at least stalled.

We'll see how the situation develops from here.

Per Business Insider:

Uber laid off a little more than 100 autonomous vehicle operators Wednesday, with the large majority based in Pittsburgh, confirmed Sarah Abboud, communications for Uber Advanced Technologies Group.

So, as expected, the article continue:

Uber eliminated the autonomous vehicle operator position in an effort to prioritize technical experience behind the wheel, said Abboud. The company announced it will hire about 55 people for the new role of mission specialists, again with the large majority in Pittsburgh. A small portion of the layoffs, and new hires, took place in San Francisco.
