It wasn’t a packaged deal and they didn’t have to take the schools.
I understand the need for closing schools that never should have opened in the first place. EDMC, owned by Goldman Sachs, lost its way and stopped caring about students, only the bottom. Those guys are gone, having made their millions and now DCEH has stepped in to try to be fiscally responsible, and make Brent Richardson richer -- more bathrooms for his gigantic house in Arizona.
I also understand that in some states, personnel can be laid off/fired without cause, but this was handled so badly, it's hurt literally thousands of people, especially the students. I had so much hope in the beginning but it has turned to despair. I only hope the accrediting agencies will step up and stop some of these actions, namely mandating a teach-out plan that is more than giving students less than two quarters' notice. A true teach-out means keeping a campus open for at least 18 months which allows most of the current students to finish their programs.
This is part of the gig ya signed on for.

DCEH stop screwing your students. Didn’t you and your cronies just rape and pillaged as you pleased? All the while under the guise of being a nonprofit. You’re no better than the charlatans in mega churches, self deserving of jet planes.
