Thread regarding IBM layoffs

Very little chatter on layoffs

This is a good thing, right, and not the calm before the storm?

The organizations that were destroyed earlier this year are still reeling. They need a few more months to figure out who to cut next.

I am seeing and hearing about people getting laid off every other week, and these are just the people I know personally. I can only imagine how many from Watson got the boot.

Bain is hard at work and the reduction's are happening all over.

GTS/GBS now being just IBM services will be hit the hardest or possibly sold off some say.

Watson Health field sales PIP's will go out after quarter end. If you missed your number second half of 2017 and First Half of 2018 you will be PIP'ed.

I would say it means IBM is near their “right sizing” head count. That means that phase 2 (sell or spinoff the slower performing divisions) is now being worked. Go listen to the CFO and analysts conf call at the end of 2nd Q. The folks on Wall Street specifically asked “why don’t you dump the under performing parts of IBM to create value for the share holders”. The IBM CFO gave a “stock” answer of we like where we have positioned the company, BUT if you don’t think IBM is getting pressured by the big boys on Wall Street to step up their game, you are not paying attention. It’s all about margin expansion, and IBM will have to dump the slower growing parts of IBM if they want expanding margins. Ginni has stated in the past that she had a 3 year plan to get to expanding margins via the strategic initatives Three years is up in July of 2019. My guess is Bain has advised Ginni on how to maximize margins for IBM, and that includes a divorce option for the slower parts of IBM
