I do not want to see someone picking their nose. I got 37 yrs in Sperry /Unisys/ Honeywell. This is one of those lines in sand . If they change the cubical I am in to that, I'm outta there.
I remember that the open office was touted for better personal interface with your coworkers. Then folks talked about how they never work with any one local. The Management tap dancing was great. Leave now.

I wouldn't call it prison because I am free to go at any time but the festival seating is unpleasant, noisy & counter productive.
If I walked into a company for an interview and saw lines of benches like a third world sweat shop as the work environment, it would weigh heavily against that company.

Seriously, 1fjc? But then I realized every visitor to this site isn't familiar with prison protocol that includes checking the beds every night to make sure that every prisoner is accounted for. Or, for children at camp or college dormitory students back in the day, that everyone was where they were supposed to be and not somewhere else.

that is a pretty damning article. solid well conducted study will clear results. meanwhile.... i have only attended one face 2 face meeting in the last 3 months. all work is outsourced both internally to lowest cost labor and externally to contract manufactures. open office in our building is nothing more than a bed check device.
This sentiment is found in many other respected news articles - just Google it. Hon does not care! I would not put it past them to find as many non-value added, irritating, mumbo jumbo that keeps productivity to a minimum.
I’ve turned down job offers in the past that had open office layouts. It was a deal breaker.
