Say what you want. Call the union members whatever you like, it makes no difference from someone hiding behind a keyboard. (BTW) please clean the crumbs out of your belly button. A union represented job with Verizon is still better than most jobs out there, pre or post 2003. If you find one by all means apply for it and best of luck to you. The contract extension is very good and fair. All of you who are on the 5G is going to kill the 90s technology called fios and all that B.S. Remember most new technology takes longer than predicted to work that efficiently and to be constructed. And comes up short in one way or another. Everything works flawlessly in a lab. Eventually it will be the case but not tomorrow like some may think. To the union represented employees and all who benefit from it congratulations! Vote yes (you're a fool not to) and enjoy the next 5 years as you may be able to consider retirement over that time instead of worrying about Aug. 2019. I am sorry to see so much negativity from so many "anonymous" posters and if your decision making makes you one who does not benefit from this extension I hope that things get better for you. Life is too short to criticize everyone and everything else but if thats how you spend your time, thats up to you.

Post 2003 members are doing just fine. The day may come when "They" may need to fight for layoff proof status. Until they are willing to strike for such status they will have to be satisfied with the "Near" layoff proof status they now enjoy. Regarding the pension they are likely better off with the super K plan they now enjoy. A pension tends to keep one captive. I invite anyone unhappy with the current contract offer to vote against it. Any points of contention some may have if given enough credence by enough people will then be dealt with. A yes vote only tells the leadership most are happy and obviously ratifies the deal. Nearly no American in the private sector enjoys better protections than post 2003 members, one exception of course being the pre 2003 members. Trolls crying for the post 2003 members "unprotected predicament" are just bitter jealous and hateful types who likely wish they had such work protections.

How about a contract where ALL UNION EMPLOYEES have job protection, post 2003 hires have a pension, and ALL are TREATED as EQUALS like the Union preaches?
The fact is today in NYC ......Verizon is building out the fiber to pass 1 Million new customers......You don't invest that kind of money to walk away in 5 years folks. The future FIOS may be mostly Data's but there are still millions that want that set-top box.
Techs from my garage have been loaned over to construction for the build so this is real.
Also by the time the 5G is in full swing and "replacing" FIOS most of today's technicians .....if not every single one of them will be cashing in on their huge 401K's AND pensions! Unheard of in today's job market.
These are the FACTS people ....So if you are a hater for some reason...... these are not good times for you.
5G will be their future choice and demise..

If I were Verizon I wouldn't be gloating over this and would be worried instead. Remember how many FiOS homes they promised and then didn't deliver? There are still plenty of central offices out there with FiOS equipment collecting dust but no outside fiber to connect to the homes and that's after receiving government tax incentives.
