Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

impact of today's INTC news?

Any thoughts on what the INTC delays will mean for our systems group?

See https://www.cnbc.com/2018/07/27/intel-plunges-on-competition-concerns-product-delays.html

There were rumors posted on other threads about eliminating hardware development in favor of having DELL build systems for us. Does anyone have any updates on this?

Open Compute Project (OCP) is the future just like open source Linux.

x86 hardware has been largely commodity stuff for at least the last 5 five years. There must be some reason Oracle has kept it around this long. Perhaps it's just the idea of having a team in house that can provide support rather than dealing with a third party. Don't all the major cloud providers have some form of internal hardware teams?

There’s nothing special about Sun/Oracle x86 hardware. With Sparc/Solaris done...all existing engineered systems are a commodities....using Cisco, Juniper, Melenox switches. No reason for Oracle to keep the HW division.
