Thread regarding State Farm Insurance layoffs

Mother of all layoffs coming in August

Confirmed there will be another 10% across the board layoff in mid-September. No departments will be spared.

Sorry, but it is near impossible to significantly deplete a 100 Billion dollars in a non-stock, Mutual Company. Exposure management has significantly improved, external reinsurance is in place and the investment portfolio is diversified and well managed. The lack of growth is a major disappointment, but rather than harming the reserves that actually helps.

You think it is over? It is just starting to gather steam rolling down the hill. Managers can't remember what they had for breakfast but yet quoting conversations they had days ago that have no validity to them. They are all dumb arses. The train WILL go off the tracks but it will. It takes a lot to burn thru that kind of reserve cash but it will happen.

I seriously doubt they will layoff another 10 %. 10% more will likely quit by then and they wont have to. Wheels are running off......

The pension plan isn’t going anywhere. It’s currently over funded and they won’t have to contribute anything for years.

That said they need to beef up their 401k match if they hope to attract and retain talent now that they are competing with other employers without guaranteed job security.

So there could be some changes, but I doubt anyone with significant time in will be affected. Might be a new hire opt in/opt out type thing.

Heard same last week AON Hewitt supposedly working on something with DB

At this point it would surprise me, I should opt out when I had the chance.

What’s up with Defined Benefit plan is anyone else hearing there is an announcement coming or is it after this next nuclear bomb

If they sto the DB I’m out that’s the only thing keeping here at this point
