Thread regarding General Electric Co. layoffs

What are the chances?

What are the chances that with never ending layoffs we are going to see severance reduced drastically?

Laying off all these people all the time can't be cheap, even if it is a one time expense versus long term pay and benefits.

I'm just starting to get scared that further we go down the line, severance will begin to shrink, and those laid off later will be screwed.

On top of that, those who were booted before you already filled the available jobs on the outside. So that's less of a chance to find another job later on down the road. It's not a good spot to be in. If GE was the Titanic right now, then it is simple to realize that those who stay onboard the longest won't get a spot on the lifeboat.

This is one of the risks you take by staying with GE and not moving on. Sure, you can wait it out and hope you get a package in the next round (or the next), but if you manage to hang on long enough, you might not get much on separation day, compared to those who got the ax early on.
