The rumor mill he in Schenectady is running rampant.

20% in the US

15% Sweden

45% France

35% of the executive bands world wide

I come to work every day and do my job to the best of my ability.

The inefficiencies forced upon employees due to management dictates are ridiculous. Imagine losing hours of productivity each day because the program you are forced to use is a piece of junk. Taking hours or days to complete a job that once took 10% of the time. Everyone knows its a problem but no one wants to address the inefficiencies.

The lack of accountability on upper level management is unbelievable. Imelt left and still no one will publicly admit that the Alstom purchase was the worst move in the history of the company. If we had simply let Siemens go ahead and purchase Alstom we would be buying up pieces of Siemens for pennies on the dollar instead of selling off every asset in order to keep the stock from taking a nosedive.

They would be out of business and we could have reaped the reward. Instead we are languishing in a down market trying to revive what may in fact already be a dead company.

I don't own GE stock anymore, after losing $250K in retirement savings during the 2008 downturn due to the collapse of GE share value I bit the bullet and got rid of all 8000+ shares I owned.

Retirement can't come soon enough. They're only going to have to make me an offer once.

Sorry to hear about Schnectady, GE will be screwed when the volume increases but they have no capacity! There goes the GE refurbish program, no one around to wind those. Has anyone heard of the eventual fate of Dallas and Atlanta?

They built Chattanooga to make nuclear jobs then the tsunami in Japan knocked their nuke plant out then everyone got scared of nuclear. We in Schenectady would be in better shape if that tsunami didn’t happen.

Schenectady will soon become like Willie Wonka's chocolate factory. It will still be there and still work but nobody will ever know who's working in there. All its former employees will be outside the gate total clueless.

Schenectady will not house employees, but will never close. Too many skeletons buried under the ground.

NQM: Again, you took the job at reduced rate. Sounds like you haven't been here long enough to get 10% differential.

Schenectady will not completely shut down but you can bet that they will get rid of as many blue collar union members as they can and only keep the cheapest most meaningless jobs possible. If they can find a one arm monkey to do your job, you're gone.

@nlz your a dumb a$$ everyone needs a job, and there are hundreds of them in the capital district. I will vote no! I will not let my vote go to waist over fear and propaganda that GE will try to stow upon me. I would rather walk with my union brothers and sisters than to be walked all over by GE any longer. This agreement is a grey line and the company will run people around like no tomorrow to boast their little man Ego. This agreement is a scam! Why wasn’t any talks of giving t rates any more money in 2015? Me for one knows the hall protects its d rates and that pension that we t rates do not have. How do you like the fact that many bar shop on days will be bumped back to off shifts? D Rates are majority again! Seems funny to me and to soon after a layoff this Bull $h!t comes out. Job code change. How you like the fact being on an off shift making 10$ less an hour than first shift union slugs?

Don't forget. Chattanooga Alstom had a brand new plant. I interviewed there before I left Bangor. If it's power related, it can be made there. New as in new in 2012. It has a the largest balance cell and a deep water river port. If I were in charge right now, I wouldn't be making parts in a hundred year old plant in the cold. Another thing to keep in mind guys, not once was the opinion of hourly taking in any decisions that came to this point. In any segment or in any plant. This is their baby, and the union, they have been protecting their own for 20 years.

They won't need the salaried employees either. Some might get to transfer somewhere else. Most will probably get to "pursue other opportunities."

@tkw, check your facts. GE is planning right now to send bar mfg to Hungary. There's a mock-up of the bar shop on the third floor of the E line to see if it can be made small enough to fit in an already existing factory there.

Bar manufacturing and testing will always be needed as long as there are existing generators. PLUS SCHDY has the asphalt pit permit too.

It won't be 2019 but plan on 2020. You all have a year and a half to look for a new job that is stable. If you wait the job market will be flooded with ex GE workers. Get ahead of GE's exit plan now!
