Thread regarding Whole Foods Market Inc. layoffs

Who got the email and who didn’t?

I’m curious about what groups/email aliases received the union email yesterday and which didn’t.

Obviously this info is being passed on by union representatives. The unions are struggling and are looking to organize so that THEY can survive. Beware

Also dont forget to update your resume because the reality is Amazon will find a way to get you fired. Union wont happen without 50% of you going under

if you are trying to seriously unionize:

-do not talk about or mention anything about unions while on the clock or within the store. organize and discuss outside of work. yes, that means your free time, but if this is something you really want, then do it right.

-start documenting and saving things like schedules. they may try and write you up for lates or shift switches. take pics on your phone, of the times when you clock in or out. dont be late for your shifts and show up and leave on time. take your breaks on time and as scheduled.

-when going into a one-on-one meeting with a higher-up, or getting called into the office. always bring a 3rd person to act as a witness. this person should not talk or give any sort of support or non-support. they are simply there to witness everything that is said between the two parties. it is your right to never be alone in a meeting or discussion. check with fellow team members and ask if they are ok with being witnesses in meetings. if it is an inconvenient time and the store is busy, then ask to have the meeting at a better time when a 3rd person is available and willing to be present.

-start saving and documenting things such as write-ups and other disciplinary documents. ask to see your folder or personal record. this is also your right to see this.

-study up on company policy and procedures. know the rules for lates and tardies and call-outs. pay special attention to the wording used in the handbooks, because sometimes the wording is very gray and malleable to how they want to manipulate the situation. pay special attention to rules that your specific store uses that may be different than the guidebook.

-be there for your fellow team member. if someone on the team is having personal issues or crisis outside of work and is having trouble making it to work on time or has to cut their shift short, offer some help or solutions, so that work production isn't suffered. Maybe other team members can each work an extra hour or come in early to help ease the stress of the scheduling.

Most companies buyers aren’t protected by the union. They’re in a weird gray area. Good luck.

A bit more to it, so research more if you like. Generally speaking you can’t be fired for trying to organize, but you will be watched and fired for some other cause they can find...just use caution and don’t be scared.

The NLRA makes it an unfair labor practice to restrict the rights of employees to form unions:

Sec. 7: "Employees shall have the right to self-organization, to form, join, or assist labor organizations, to bargain collectively through representatives of their own choosing, and to engage in other concerted activities for the purpose of collective bargaining or other mutual aid or protection, and shall also have the right to refrain from any or all of such activities except to the extent that such right may be affected by an agreement requiring membership in a labor organization as a condition of employment as authorized in section 8(a)(3) [section 158(a)(3) of this title]." (NLRA, 29 U.S.C. § 157

WFM TMs, if you want good info your best bet is to join the Whole Worker community and find out for yourself what's going on, what's known and not, what's legal and not. Right now it is just a safe place for TMs to come together. Use your personal email from home, send a message to wholeworkerwfm at gmail.com and they'll send you an invite to sign up. WFM email is not required. I don't know about any connection between Slack and Amazon but even if there was you don't have to reveal your identity and there is nothing illegal about you joining this community. If we unite we can have power. And if you want your voice to be heard, this is the place for TMs who care about WFM core values and real TM happiness to work together.

You can absolutely get in trouble if they think you are trying to unionize. Don’t talk about it and don’t get involved.

I’m wondering the same. Also, can you talk about the emails/impending layoffs openly in the store or can we get in trouble if someone in leadership overhears?
