Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

Anxiety Management

Since layoffs at the end of 2016, I have been concerned about my job security and have had anxiety resulting from this (umm wonder what the lawyers would say, another post I think), After each round, I was still here so finally about 6 months ago,I stopped caring. Now I can sleep at night. If it comes, fine, if not fine.

but if you are smarter why not to land in a smart job and play at your true level? after several years I decided it's time to try and it's hard but it's worth it.

Cynical? Yes, but incredibly liberating. When you do get to that stage, you walk out every day whistling and happy instead of tired stressed and miserable. When it became clear I was just a commodity (which didn't take very long, trust me) I decided to treat them the same way. Do my job? yes. Produce a quality deliverable? yes. but beyond that, nothing. Nothing extra, nothing more nothing beyond what is expected of me. And let's face it, the bar is set pretty low so you are still actually ahead of the game. Just keep your mouth shut and don't care.

Correct. Show up, do your hours, take their money, but don't care about the place - it's the only way to deal with it.

Pretty easy, really. Just stop caring. You got a Sev 1 24x7 in your queue? Why worry! It ain't you that have that issue! I'm a support engineer and have stop caring for those id--ts for most of this decade and I'm still employed. Screw the customers, they all s---, we just want their money. Half of them can't even speak English(actually, more than 2/3 of them). The rest thinks we can do their job for them(yeah, they don't speak English very well too, I should rename myself Patel or Shiva or some 10 syllable name). So, in brief, screw them all and when the dust settles, I'll still be employed and not caring about the customers. I sleep like a baby 8-9 hours a night.
