Thread regarding Union Pacific Corp. layoffs

Agreement employees are sympathetic to your pain.

I know there has been some back and forth on another thread...but, rest assured we need those support positions at corporate in order for us to operate efficiently in the field. We do feel your pain and hope the best for all impacted. Many of us have been thru corporate cuts at one time in our life and understand how it impacts a person. Not an easy thing to just shrug off for most people. Hang in there folks and take pride in the good work you've done. Justice will prevail in the end and those who deserve condemnation will recieve it surely and swiftly. Don't let this bad experience define or destroy the inner You. You can rise above.

As much as I do agree with this post, I have to say that it's going to be short lived! I feel really bad for anyone that was let go, but unfortunately it's the agreement employees who are next! Anyone who might still be affiliated with this company, GET OUT! This is only going to get worse! I was there when CP implemented PSR! It does not matter who or where you are in the company! This company is making a mistake, and I don't give a good God damn what others believe! I WAS THERE!

So we're next in line, after the fat has been cut, now you can truly see what you can cut in the lean. Sadly 30% by 2020. Is not a far fetched goal. Just a reminder to powers to be, some crafts are irreplaceable.... Hint what you were willing to pay to get people to go to exotic locations.....

But railroading is just a figment of our imaginations.

I recommend anyone with 5 or more years request a pin from RRB.gov and look at what your annuity is at now. You will then know it’s going to be worth it to keep your employment within the rail industry.

One thing I was told whenever I hired out was there are good years and bad years but to stick with it. The man that told me this told me how much his retirement was going to be and that he has seen people quit and beg for a job 5-10 years down the road. Some people were hired back some weren’t.

I was furloughed in 2007 and almost gave up but came back whenever the railroad called me. It’s been pretty good since the.

Hang in there. They don’t care about us as individuals and don’t offer any kind of incentive for agreement employees but the retirement is worth it in the end.

Agreed. I've been on the other side , and im a current agreement employee. I was furloughed in 14', and nothing felt worse than not being able to take care of my family. Fortunately I was able to find a new career shortly thereafter in a different craft . Good luck to all who got shafted , I honestly believe you will find your way back to form.
