Thread regarding Union Pacific Corp. layoffs

Layoffs were in the making a long time ago..

Think for a minute. The reason up has gone through wave after wave of layoff/forced retirement/hr botched initiatives/scare people off/ or implicate them in a manufactured crisis, is simple.

The deep rooted nepotism, cronyism, old boy network, and questionable hiring practices to maintain a healthy corporate image have over time weakened the organization to the point it exposed itself to the activist investor stalking them from afar. This has festered for decades. Even under jim and jack.

Wall st "analysts" got wind or a whiff of hunters oxygen, and set thier eyes of the armour yellow buffalo.

Board saw this coming, and then focused on g55 and tried to shift thier culture. It was too late. Bain, teachers union, blackrock were licking thier chompers. Knight frantically bought back shares (read: money coming right out of your pocket, goldenhandcuffer)

Up refused to get the right talent in, spend on projects that may have low current roi to strengthen the network for the future. Competition passed them by. Meanwhile, thier good people left on thier own accord, and everyone else became a casualty in the death spiral.

Moral of the story: work for a company that sets higher standards and had much better executive team leaderhip than these doofuses.

There are much better jobs out there. For most of you, this is a blessing in disguise. For those left, better decide if houston or fort worth fits your bill.

It's really irrelevant at this point of where they go or if they stay! I doubt the HQ is moving to Ft. Worth! Its possible, but highly doubt it! I would say the company can't just pick up and go, but they seem to be doing exactly what they want at any time! The once great UP reputation is being seriously damaged with every passing day! I see a huge PR/HR problem on the horizon for UP! The string of layoffs taking place have been making national news, along with the shop closings! It's going to be ugly for the UP! This company is just not what it used to be! The investors ARE raising eyebrows and questions already about the recent decisions! The stocks have already fallen, and will likely continue that trend! Key point is that if a stock goes too low, then the investors start looking at probable causes! That situation can actually be a blessing in disguise for many affected! Each round of layoffs took a massive toll on the integrity of the company! It eventually rebounded, but irreversible damage has already been done! The morality with the employees does not exist, and corporate knows this! All the negatives within the company are adding up! The UP no longer has people that want to work for them, and has a difficult time hiring as well! It's simply not a secure job any more! You live in constant fear of being fired, constant harrassment from management, lies, and no available training to do the job safely! The UP is really going to have a difficult time getting people to work for them! Who would want to work for a company that is constantly furloughing or straight firing people! Fritz can easily be removed! All it takes is a vote of the board! He is the sitting chairman of the board so it's unlikely it will happen that way! Please bear in mind that the board of directors still has the power to remove even if the CEO is the elected chairman as well! The board can decide if the company's direction is headed in the right direction! If it's not, then the board can vote on terminating any applicable contract the CEO may have! All it takes is for someone on the board to get fed up, and vote! That's all it takes! Everyone needs to be patient with this! Losing a job s---s worse then anything, but Fritz is driving the nails in his own coffin! BE PATIENT! It's coming!

UP owns the HQ building and the land. We don't lease it. When it was built we initially leased it but we bought out the lease in June 2014 from Citibank. But that means nothing, we can always sell it or lease it out to someone.

I've heard Ft Worth earlier this year. Was told we lease the HQ and Nebraska tax breaks go away next year. (Unverified). Most buzz is in the South. I would not be surprised.

Many forced layoffs and major misery to those left standing. The future is very bleak indeed

What’s the deal with Fort Worth or Houston? Is that the next HQ location?

Lance has single-handedly destroyed this company. Jim Young was able to take this company to new heights and Jim never had to resort to this. He also was a long term visionary that could see past the next quarterly earnings release. He was able to form a cohesive leadership team that worked to move the company forward. Lance is none of this. I really feel for all the employees that Lance has turned his back on. Very Very sad.

Lance only cares about himself and the shareholders. He's the absolute worst for UP and I feel sorry for all employees... the employees are the ones who make this railroad work but unfortunately Lance doesn't see that or care. He's running it into the ground. Three layoffs in the extremely short time he's been CEO is simply pathetic. He's making terrible decisions and is absolutely heartless about the employees working their butts off only to be betrayed again by him.

No doubt about it. His leadership pails in comparison to the likes of BNSF and some other railroads. Very Sad for all involved. Hopefully, he'll rot in hell & endure terrible terrible abuse there!!
