Already left UP. The problem has been the Union members are fearful of the company. All logic is brought on by fear not being a Union member. I don't blame anyone because the Union Stewart's are for the company. The leadership in the local works for the company and has to hideout to make a call. Who are the people that are in the council, how did they get their jobs? Are they smart or do they get voted on by the other members of the council? I know that none of the leadership at the National level know what is going on at the local or council level. The contract that your under is from the 1960s, yes this is true. How can this be? I have worked with the Ibew for 30 years and when I arrived I was sad to see a system that this unloyal to it own members.

To magic mike-

This isn't grinder man, I think you posted on the wrong site. Who the f--- is hard R? Do your really think someone on here is named hard R? Theres no one posting under that name. I think you should reconsider who the id--t is that knows nothing. The fleet is a corporate perk and costs millions to operate and brings in no money. If anyone is serious about saving jobs and cutting costs, it's low hanging fruit. BTW, the 18th floor has a great view.

You need to think about the rehire effect. Terminate people with several years of service and higher wages. If you find you’ve cut too far, no problem - just hire again. Low years of service, lower wages. Simple math. It’s been going on as long as there has been corporations. They use it to project labor costs, for goodness sakes.

Definitely have some dumb as**^ on here. I could throw out some figures on here that would blow your undereducated tiny brain on how big of an asset these means of transportation are for the company. They are not only the, “Pride of UP” but it’s about the heritage of this railroad. I’ve traveled many times on these cars and have met a lot of customers from all over the world. Believe me I don’t want anyone to go home but to throw out ideas that YOU think would benefit the company.... well that’s why you’re in the position you’re in. BAM!

So we would lay off what, 5 pilots that all.make over 100k and then we would ground our planes that cost millions in fuel, and maintenance. Small price to pay for the smart guy saying it was a dumb idea.

To the "Smart guy", who was bashing the person saying they should cut out the Heritage Fleet and Corporate jets. F---ing absolutely! Too bad if there are more layoffs. Most of the corporate jets are to fly the board of Directors back and forth to Omaha during their board meetings. Other than that, old Fritz can use those jets at his pleasure to fly wherever he wants to or needs to. He can start flying in coach seats, on a regular airline, like the rest of his employees are expected to do daily, for business. Second, the heritage fleet exists for a "feel good" mentality within the railroad. The heritage fleet does not make money for the railroad, since UP does not have anything to do with passenger service, and has not many years. Once in a while, the board of directors uses the heritage fleet for an "inspection tour" of the railroad. Other than that, is not used for anything but publicity, kind of like the big smoking piece of sh-- steam engine they run all over hell and back. Third, cut out of the pomp and show for the board of directors, when they come in to Omaha for their meetings. No more Special Agents renting high priced cars to transport them, no more protection details, and no more executive parties on the 19th floor when the mo--ns are in town. They can stay at a CLC hotel, eat on a sh--ty allowance, handle their own baggage, fly on commercial airplanes, and take a cab when they are in town. It would save the company a ton of money. Last but not least.....Get rid of all of the Special Agents. For years, the safety dept. has been decimated. And before some limp d--k starts crying about "railroad safety". Let me tell you something, when there are literally three special agents covering a 1500 mile stretch of territory, there isn't much safety anyways, and local authorities handle the majority of the call load.

I would absolutely start looking for a different job if I didn't have to pay relocation package back. This is to chain you down for 12 months. I guess I have to wait until I officially nonlonger have a job.

To the smart guy that replied about corporate jet and heritage fleet. Think about what you’re saying... you’re wanting to lay-off more people? Wonder who you are for! Better to keep it to yourself on something’s.

Side note on the Selma comment. All the communication I've seen about Selma is that it is closing. I haven't seen that they are selling it at all. I'm.betting that it is closed for 1-2 years and opened up after 2020 is complete as a celebration. Just my thought. Also, while we're at it, maybe we stop using the heritage fleet and corporate jets too.

If training is going to be let go, what about those employees still there scheduled to go to a training class this week? I think the same as in the above post... everyone still there should look for another job elsewhere and leave UP hanging. Let's see what THAT does for them when there is no one there to do the actual work.

Is this just in Omaha or system wide?

If you stop and think about everything going on the company, you can't help but wonder what the reasoning is for it all! First reason is greed! There's a lot going on in the UP corporate world that most don't know about! Most people know they're selling off the Selma farm resort! Has anyone thought about the why? Well there's a justification issue there! The current layoffs are happening for simple profit! Less goes out, and more comes in! A 2 year old would know that! It would raise a red flag if that place were kept open, with the current and upcoming layoffs! Not to mention if that were to be looked into by an outside source! What people aren't aware of is the actual real estate the UP still owns! Selma farm was the biggest and most expensive to operate! No mention has been made of those people being displaced! Again, the why? Why haven't those people been mentioned? All these luxuries the executive's have indulged in, are being closed down! This gives the UP leverage against possible litigation! They will have deniability! They're working on deflecting the attention of self interest! In other words, they're going to make it look like the restructuring is necessary! If this were to end up in a litigation process, the UP would most likely win! So keep up the pressure folks! Make this as hard as possible for the UP! Just because they got in a good punch, doesn't mean the fight is over!

Shocker! I encourage any and all people that are employed by the UP to leave! Let's all give the UP a gourmet sh-- sandwich to gnaw on! Turn the table on the this damn company! Eventually they'll have to face the music, and I promise it's a tune they won't like!
