https://www.levels.fyi/ has comparison charts for job levels and pay grades across the big tech companies. Not perfect but better than nothing.

Oracle distributes Red Hat Linux as Oracle Linux and does not pay anything as it's open source. Linux subscriptions are the bulk of Red Hat's revenue. $34 billion is an insane price tag, and the fact that it RH will no longer be open (I don't care about the rah rah from GR) will lead companies to switch Linux distributions. What is IBM going to do with Red Hat? Make it run on its dead POWER line? Use it to drive x86 server sales .. oh wait, they sold that business to Lenovo. There will certainly be massive layoffs at both companies to pay off the $34 billion debt .
@VSAUaHo-yer There is no one-one mapping from what ever engineer level among companies. Why bother? As of today, an SDE3 from Amazon can have 2x companion than Oracle's IC5. But the IC5 is called senior principle and SDE3 is called senior development engineer.
The mass exodus of people was due to those who were very annoyed at getting down leveled to IC4 in their job offers. In other words, all DEs and Senior Staff were flatlined to Principal SW Engineer level in Oracle. That severely upset lots who left and never forgot. So when you hear about certain Sun tech leaders spout vitriol towards Oracle still then remember this is the reason for a lot of their hate.
There will a mass exodus of talent from Red Hat due to this. Exactly like what happened when Sun Microsystems was acquired by Oracle. Is IBM well known for 3rd company merger integration ?
The price IBM paid for redhat smacks of desperation, don’t you think? Sorry I just do it see a successful independent company like RH continuing to grow and innovate as part of a behemoth like IBM. Convince me otherwise.
