FYI -- Gannett has notified the state of Florida that it will lay off 45 production staff in Tallahassee starting 5/20/19.

3 things are happening right now

Consumer Solutions Center (Customer Service) is being outsourced to the Philippines effective 12/31/2018.

Multiple IT departments were outsourced to India starting March 2019. Fortunately doesn't affect many people at onsite Gannett locations that deal with troubleshooting and is more of a corporate IT, programmer, networking outsource.

Several hundred people took the Early Retirement package and their last day is 1/2/2019.

Technology teammates,

As some of you may recall, in 2017 Gannett Technology spearheaded a new company-wide program called the Global Workforce Initiative. The goal of GWI is to build the necessary organizational skills and partnerships to begin utilizing workforces overseas in support of Gannett’s strategic goals.

By partnering with capable technology service providers, GWI’s goal has been to bring nimbleness and flexibility to our bandwidth, provide significant cost savings to the company, and help us benefit from broader industry expertise in our processes and tools.

We have already seen many of these benefits through the first phase of GWI, namely our partnership with Cognizant Technology Solutions, an established and well-respected player in the technology outsourcing-offshoring space. Over the last year plus, we have worked to transition certain functions within our Revenue Solutions group to Cognizant Technology Solutions as well as augmenting our staff in the network management area.

In 2018 we began the process to expand the initiative to a broader set of functions. After a comprehensive and diligent evaluation process, we have now finalized the list of areas that will be included in the next phase and have identified Cognizant as the most likely partner to grow with.

The functional areas for the next phase are:

• Under Digital Infrastructure and Operations (Chris Ruffieux)

o Datacenter Infrastructure Management

o The Network Operations Center (NOC)

o Database Management

• Under Enterprise Infrastructure and Operations (Jack Mundie)

o iSeries Management

o Client Computing

o Network Management (Data Networks)

• Under Revenue Solutions (Rick Baker)

o Development and QA

o B2B Solutions

o B2C Solutions

• Under Technology Support Services (Phil Legler)

o Helpdesk Intake

o Level 1 and Level 2 Support

We are currently working to finalize detailed contracts and statements of work before end of year. During January-May of 2019 we will be actively working on transition of these areas and expect to be in steady state before mid-year.

Needless to say, this process will bring major change to our organization. While it will help us improve our efficiency and update our capabilities, it will also have impact on our people and our positions. Some positions will remain on the team for the duration of transition, some will remain beyond transition and for the foreseeable future, and still others will have an opportunity to transition to our partner. Our goal is to provide full clarity and detail to all team members in the first half of January.
