Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

Oracle will not help you in finding new positions

Oracle will not help you at all in finding new positions. In fact, it is their thinking that it's the employee's fault for not doing that in the first place. Way to kick someone when they're down. Your only hope(if that's what you want to call it) is to make sure that the rehire eligible flag is set to Yes in your HR record if you want to return to Oracle, but why would you want to do that?

Everyday the place I am at is turning to a high school playground with no adult supervision. But hey, they can hire 2-4 millennials to replace an old knowledgeable geezer with decades of experience and customer service, right?

Thought that this was a great post, so I reposed it. OP by @VTXTx9r-1egz

The title could have stopped at "Oracle will not help you"

I agree with you. It used to be that developers were expected to think, to come up with ideas, to be able to write documentation, to give a decent demo. Not any more. Personally, I think that the reduction in expectations comes with the hiring of people in India and China who can't do much of anything, including speak the language or communicate with anyone.

HR's objective is to get a clean kill for the Board and shareholders. That's it. HR = Human Remains.

what kind of help are you looking for? You can try to find a new job while you have a job - but even that's not so easy. Take a lot of training if you can, while you can. I was laid off from a place about 17 years ago and part of the package was placement services. That was pretty cool. I'm not sure if it was all that useful but it gave me something to do. I don't know if companies do that anymore. Once you are laid off, though, I wouldn't expect anyone to be helping you find another Oracle job. I've not seen that happen. Maybe your friends would. There are many different places to work within Oracle. Some good, some bad.

Actually skippy I find today's new jobs require FEWER skills than those even 10 years ago. When was the last time you use even basic Calculus to deliver a solution or deliver a benchmark? No, things on the whole require less skills and therefore more experienced workers are not required. I can learn new technology and apply faster than any kid out of college. Part of the problem is I find the new technology mostly boring and hiring managers consider me to be "overqualified" which translates to being "overpaid". AWS certifications are not all that hard to get. In fact, I would say they are quite achievable with the modest of efforts.

The return of company script and the company town?

It is almost that way now. I read some place a few companies are actually providing on-site housing. And the young crowd is actually going for it. I wish I could remember the company and the details because my jaw just about hit the floor.

Are there any companies left that provide job support or services to employees who are laid off? That used to be “a thing”. The blame the victim mentality is just too easy. Layoffs are just accepted now as a method to control costs and keep Wall Street happy. It wasn’t always that way. Glad I’ll be dead and buried when you now young people are getting chewed up and spit out in a dystopia future workforce that no one can even imagine now. What will it be? The return of company script and the company town? A gig economy where you work 18 hours a day for a dollar or two per “job”? Sky Net? You get pledged to a corporation while a child compete with a chip embedded in your brain?

Yep, you just keep on blaming the victim, who will someday be YOU!

Uh, most companies won't so what's your point, grow up. Let me guess, you are another one of the 25+ year alum who has let their skills rot, sleeps at their desk, hasn't kept up with technology? Good luck.

At least somebody at Oracle is happiest they have ever been according to this blog about the OW c---tail party. Hope other parents at O are, too. But probably not so much. Good luck job hunting. https://www.disprz.com/blog/meeting-larry-ellison-oracle-founder/

“After all that you have achieved, what drives you to go to work every morning?”, and as I reflect on that evening, he had answered already this question, when he said “I have a 22-month-old and a 5-month-old. Seeing them play and spending time with them gives me immense happiness. And this is the happiest I have ever been.”
