Thread regarding IBM layoffs

IBM Resource Action 2019

Not my thread I just recycled 2018 post... You can see i there @OLbfSBK

I will be the first one to start it – let’s talk about IBM Resource Action for 2019. I know that there are some rumors already floating around, but let’s consolidate things in this thread. In short I’d like to address the following:

  • Timing of Resource Actions – are we going to see quarterly boosts throughout 2019?

Size of layoffs – are we going to exceed, in size, 2018 layoffs – should we brace for a mega cut?

Geographies – where will 2019 layoffs going to be concentrated? East? West? US vs other geographies?

Verticals – What groups will be hit the most as it relates to the upcoming resource actions?

That’s all that comes to mind right now – I am sure I am omitting some other important stuff but that’s what I have right now…

Thoughts?

Services needs to go in order to become profitable again.

IBM processes have stagnated this sector for years and the clients deserve much better.

The layoffs are going to come in a different flavor in 2019. Ibm will Be spinning off a large portion of legacy HW and services. As such IBM will stuff the spinoffs with unwanted folks just like they did with Lenovo. Once the spinoff’s are complete, Bain will do the dirty work and cull the herd. The remaining IBM will have some layoffs (streamlining the reporting management chain, replacing the board, replacing the executive management team), BUT most of the remaining heads will stay as there isn’t really anything left that IBM will want to get rid of.
