Thread regarding Altice USA (Cablevision) layoffs

Heard the same thing when 4G lte came out. People said our world would come to an end. I'm still here sipping my cool-aid and eating my pudding snacks.

Now that I have excellent cell coverage from Sprint I no longer need my Altice modem.

You are right , there is no future... Verizon has the fiber network built out while we play catch up and it costs us more to do it today.

And once the verizon 5g is lit up they will be able to compete against our fiber in areas where they dont even have fiber!

So what does that mean for us? Altice spends a fortune putting fiber to the home today and needs to generate X amount of dollars over a certain timespan to pay this off and make money.. But then the 5g salesman comes, gives the same or better services wirelessly and signs the customer up!

No tech needed, just put this nifty box near your window and there you go. And maybe with their huge pricing power they undercut us , forcing altice to lower the pricing to keep customers.. and guess where they go to make up for this under cutting??

Us! The workforce. Its the easiest place to get your cost savings.. Cutting salaries, benefits, entitlements.. A slippery downhill slope. This has been done over and over. Greyhound drivers, meatpackers and factory workers in the mid west, anywhere else where competition took a bite out of profits.

As yourself how can we compete? Most of our subs already have verizon wireless and the new 5g home internet and tv will be priced better for existing customers.. $50 bucks a month for up to 1gig with over the top streaming services thrown in.... Sh-- the only subs we will get are the cheap ones who have t-mobile and boost mobile and dont want to pay sh-- anyway.. Not the best customer base to be left with..

You are right, get out and get something better. this only direction this job is going is going down

Getting out was the best thing I ever did. You guys have no clue what you are missing. I am making more a week than I ever had and working half as hard. Get your resumes dusted off and start applying. I was happy during the Cablevision years and thought I had a future. I was wrong the whole time. I make 2xs what I was making with Cablevision and work for a company that has future and isn't afraid to pay. Don't stay the future is bleak in an ever ending failing industry. Will it be there in 20yrs yeah sure but you won't be able to make half as much money as you can anywhere else. If you have any brain cells you will get yourself out of that hell hole.
