On Monday September 24th, Verizon announced that it's selling over 1200 US workers to Infosys, an Indian consulting company known for it's "Sweat Shop" style work ethics and has been investigated and fined $34M by justice department for H1B Visa fraud
As stated by Verizon CIO in an email sent to the employees sold to Infosys "You are the most knowledgeable talent to go to Infosys". As if being sold to Infosys without any choice is not bad enough, to add "Insult to the Injury" they are not even paid ANY severance package.
The irony is, while the "most talented and critical" people are forced out of Verizon without ANY severance package, at the same time "not-so-talented" people remain employed in Verizon and given 60 weeks of pay just for leaving the company on their own.
Verizon CIO, Shankar Arumugavelu, along with the new CEO, Hans Vestberg, is forcefully selling people to Infosys whether they want to go or not (remember slavery?). And if they don't go, they’re going to get "diddly squat" ..no severance, no bonus and of course "NO JOB".
Many of these so called "most talented" people have worked for 20, 25 and even 30+ years in Verizon and are close to retirement. Repeated calls from 1200+ Verizon employees asking for a severance package has gone on deaf ears of Verizon leadership team.
Verizon has gone from "Can you hear me now?" to "I can't hear you now". Wonder how 5G would be like with this attitude.
Bottom line, here is what Verizon is "Communicating" :
If you are an Intelligent and talented individual who worked tirelessly for 50-60 hours a week for 20 -30 years, you’re a very lucrative slave for Verizon and would be rewarded by being sold to an Indian company.
However if you are lowly-talented/ incompetent/ dim-witted and may be even stupid person, Verizon may be the place to be, as you will be guaranteed a handsome severance package if they ever let you go.
Way to go Shankar and Hans !
