Staples is a great company, it's the people that run it that are the problem.

Just imagine for a second: with all the multi million $ mistakes and the top heavy salaries, its still making money, if they eliminated all the dead weight and made good decisions what it could be.

Directors VP's are probably the best actors I have ever worked with, they would do great in Hollywood, all they do is attend meetings and get second hand information, which they pass s along to their superiors, talk about waste of time and living in a make believe world, they spend 2/3 of their days in meetings and the rest of the time on the phone or on their lab tops looking at numbers, creating reports that most of the time are BS. I have to be fair and there are a few smart and dedicated within the large group, because they intimidate and disagree with the rest they either end up leaving or let go. The new CEO seems to be a smart person but he needs to be sharp and recognize who he has around him feeding him BS if not 2019 will be pretty miserable.

Sycamore is making the right calls. They are expert at getting operations in line and making companies more productive. That is their wheelhouse .

I think you will see down the road that all the things they are doing will make the brand better and help the business.

They just spent nearly a billion dollars on Essendant. How much do they need to spend for it to count as investing?!

It all depends on what they do with the cash. I'm pretty sure they are NOT reinvesting it into Staples...draw your own conclusions. Tick Tock Tick Tock

How many ways can a private equity spell the word “desperation”? This is all part of ripping value out of a dead beast.

yes. cashing out assets to move into their own cashpile and leaving the company on the hook.

this is exactly like taking out a reverse mortgage on your mom's house and pocketing the cash.

hey, mom's gonna die anyway, right?

Just a bit of financial engineering. Think they did the same thing with the home office already
