Full time faculty at Art Institutes?

Are there full time positions available at the Art Institutes anymore? The comments on here imply that all full timers were let go or cut to part time. I am on a closing campus and was considering transferring to another school. Do full time faculty positions still exist at AI? Seems like all the other local colleges and universities advertising faculty positions are adjunct only with no benefits. The full time pay was never great at AI but I had good health care, nice working hours and students I really enjoyed teaching. Maybe it is time to go back to freelancing if education is dropping all full time benefits.

Ai Austin just cut all their full time faculty. Two of the chairs were kept as "lead instructors" whatever that means, and we had a campus president from Indiana I think for about a month and then they plucked her out and sent her to Dallas. They don't know what the c-ap they are doing. Full time faculty are really angry and are currently looking for other jobs. I'm one of them. Not sure how the campus is going to survive this.

4ivo so gross - $1800 for a 4 hour class that lasts 11 weeks

Community colleges pay better than that --

RUN!!!!! DON'T LOOK BACK!!!! OMG - this place is so corrupt, so insane and run by completely incompetent people. Why would you want a FT job here? It will crash and burn your résumé. All benefits have been cut and if you work online, you are expected to work 7 days/week for approximately $4/hour - is that what you really want?

Ai is a Sh--HOLE!

That is a difference from AiO, sounds like AiO pays a higher stipend per credit per class. AiO pays $1,500 per 3 credit (quarter system) class. $1600 per class after the first year. Less than 9 students in the class and the pay drops significantly.

Contact hours online are very high, 15-20 hours per week per class, if you’re in one of the new format classes then add an extra 5+ hours (there are more assignments and grading with the built in rubric is time consuming).

It’s a job.

Adjuncts at our school are paid $2700 for six-hour classes and $1800 for four-hour classes. Though it’s a far cry from full time pay, it’s more than others have listed. I hope many pass up the deal, but so far it appears most faculty have returned.

*We were offered positions as adjuncts and are expected to comtinue all full time duties.*

Who would do this? Ai only pays $1,500 per class (unless there Is low enrollment then salary drops). I’ve heard some make $1,600 per class. The time commitment is ridiculous at AiO, might be better on a campus. Currently you can teach only 10 classes a year. It is not worth a 2/3 pay cut to do the same job as a full time faculty. You can do better on unemployment and train for another job.

As an open school, we still laid off all full time faculty except two departments and each of those has one. We were offered positions as adjuncts and are expected to comtinue all full time duties. Our accreditation either no longer matters or they have reason to believe we will pass anyway.

No president, dean, program chairs, or full time faculty representation for almost all departments. I would say getting a stable position is unlikely and would consider all other options.

kpo, I've seen FT faculty positions posted on the internal DCEH jobs board. You can access it through HR1 Connect.

Don't do it. Look for work elsewhere. DCEH is all about the profits and full time faculty members are costly. They will do everything possible before hiring you full time.

Has anyone actually seen posting for FTF??? And if so where?

kxg illegally

the purpose is to reduce the salary rate I am sure - and easier control over fresh blood.

How do layoffs of full-time employees happen and then postings are up to hire full-time faculty?

Think about this from an outside view - a college with only 5 full time faculty in San Diego? And there are about 8 in Pittsburgh. That's absurd. There was a time when Pittsburgh had about 120 full-time faculty.

Go elsewhere -- this is a sinking ship as it was and changes -- who knows what will happen

Ai online for ftf is ridiculous with the micromanaging.

Online has some full time faculty. They work them to death though, with the responsibilities changing every month. You'd be better off looking at other schools that treat their faculty fairly.

Yes, there are still full-time faculty at Ai. We have five in San Diego and a full-time web design position has been posted.

Ai was never of interest to DCF, from an article March 6, 2017, “the least aligned institution to the Dream Center’s mission would be the Art Institutes...the foundation would consider offering more technology training degrees through the Art Institutes to fill growing job market needs.

“(Existing Ai programs) ...are very expensive to teach and … they’re jobs that don’t pay well out of college.”

AiO has full time faculty. We were told at several meetings AiO would be brining in full time faculty from closing schools as adjuncts. We’ve heard nothing about hiring anyone full time.

Pittsburgh has a skeleton crew of full time faculty, even some larger departments have only a director and one FTF.

It will be interesting to hear if Miami, Atlanta, Tampa, Hollywood and other “open” schools still have full time faculty.
