Layoffs in OCC outside the US

A number of OCC teams outside the US are being informed that OCI-C/OCC is reducing staff in remote locations and therefore the remote team is being let go.

Measure twice and cut once should have been the mantra for the leadership that spent two decades ignoring tech trends.

But instead they ran screaming to the cloud, destroying anything not labeled "cloud" in their wake, haphazardly writing anything that anyone could think up on the spot. No planning, no thought, no "cloud".

OCI-Classic and it’s mutant offspring OCC were abominations that never should have seen the light of day. Renewal rates and customer satisfaction are embarrassing. Oracle Cloud 1.0 succeeded only in alienating on premise customers and those who decided to give the old dog a shot. Oracle started on its way too late journey to cloud with a ton of cash and an enviable customer list. Both have burned.

Measure twice and cut once should have been the mantra for the leadership that spent two decades ignoring tech trends.

"OCC is a billion dollar business" ?? Is that profit? Revenue?

Or, just the total of Oracle owned assets depreciating at customer sites and NRE costs?

Seems like in this case, Oracle is spending billions chasing millions in "Cloud" revenue.

While the problems you cited are real, the bottom line is that OCC is a billion dollar business with hundreds of deployments and hundreds more in the pipeline. Does it make more sense to simply give up that business or to try to fix some of the issues?

You put engineered systems into a customer data and you depend on the customer to provide cooling, power, and networking for all to work. You have no control of the network and relying on the platinum gateway to get access to servers to configure them. You depend on the field to stage 500+GB of binaries with take a few days to download. This is so inefficient and a complete waste of resource and manpower. All marketing BS. BS jobs to save some group from lay-off.

It's really simple. It was not developed by the OCI team. The OCI team has a serious case of NIH syndrome. Now that DJ is in charge anything not OCI is being thrown under the bus.

Same old, same old. Management can't understand complexity. Swing to the cloud, meant all cloud and destroy everything else. Swing to OCI means all OCI and destroy everything else.

You can't run a company with id--ts for management.

Considering that the previous comment was talking about the development teams and not the sales team your comment is way off base.

What a laugh .... "The Ireland and Israel teams were some of the most innovative in OCC"

Most innovative in deal structures and misrepresentation

The Ireland and Israel teams were some of the most innovative in OCC. But OCI seems hellbent on tearing down everything.

Agree. Its a product selling really well and has a hard working but understaffed team. If the assertion in this post is anywhere near truth (and it may just be false too, who knows) , I amazed that we are not capitalizing on the first mover advantage and stabilizing the product

OCC is the only innovation that Oracle has provided in the cloud space. OCI-C (aka OPC) and OCI are pale reflections of what Amazon and Microsoft are doing in the space. On the other hand, no one else is offering cloud at customer in this way. There is no question that the product has a lot of problems, however, the bottom line is that it is selling quite well and the money it brings in is what is funding OCI.

The main problem with OCC is that TK pushed it out the door before it was ready because he wanted to get a first mover advantage (which he did). However, instead of allowing the team to fix/stabilize the product he kept on adding new features and changing what he wanted (for those who know CPO is a great example). Additionally, in comparison to the thousands working on OCI and the hundreds working on OCI-C, OCC was woefully understaffed.

The OCC team in Israel (11 people) and the OCC team in Ireland (5 people) were informed that they were being let go at the beginning of the week. Due to the more employee friendly laws in Europe, that started a process towards dismissal which takes some time
