Thread regarding Juniper Networks Inc. layoffs

What do people do for medical after being laid off?

What's the best option currently, at least until you find a new job?

@1zar, the cure everything with paracetamol in the UK, which is in Europe for just a little while longer. Elsewhere in the EU we have proper healthcare. :)

1500X4 to cover cobra, are you serious? The bottom line is that if you need medical you better find a job fast. People that voted in DEMs to save healthcare must all be working and have benefits because anyone looking to find healthcare in particular Obamacare is in for sticker shock, and pundits are claiming that it's going up another 1500.00 this year. With Obamacare you essentially if you take it out for just yourself will pay at a minimum 13k before obamcare pays a single penny towards your medical. Then once they do pay they cover 60%, and you pay 40% of the balance.

It might be a good time to start looking for another job if you are concerned about being laid off.

Juniper will pay for COBRA for a bit.

Regardless, you shouldn't let the oncoming train hit you!....Ever! Start prepping for the better companies and interview! Make it your life's mission to put SERIOUS EFFORT into this endeavor. Remember, it WON'T just fall in your lap. You WILL have to slog it, but in the end it'll bring you unimaginable stress relief. Well worth the effort!

Heck. I know people at the FANGS that have great jobs but are ALWAYS interviewing a couple of times a year and have their skill set fresh for these interviews. They don't let their skill set begin to foul. And every move they make is for the better!

If you are laid off, in addition to severance, Juniper offers 1500 x4 to cover 4 months of the Cobra.

The main option is the use of COBRA, which will mean you will continue your insurance you have at Juniper, but you will pay the whole fee. For example, one job I left, I got the letter to initiate Cobra and the monthly fee was $1,534.

Yeah, we need to get universal healthcare in the US. Not only is our health insurance broken (as seen by a $1534 monthly charge that still had co-pays, higher deductibles) but the whole system needs overhauled. When I lived in even less-developed nations in Asia, I had better health care than I do here in the US and even as an ex-pat I paid far less than what I pay here.

Move to Europe where they have real healthcare.
