Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Anybody Getting Legal advice post LR???

Has anyone contacted an attorney to review the package, and gotten a recommendation one way or the other regarding class action for age discrimination? Can someone recommend an employment attorney in San Jose?

I don’t nessarily agree that they’ve done nothing wrong. They are, or were the year I got laid off, targeting older workers.

I agree w/ @W3TafQV-wkq that they are obeying the letter of the law. I felt sorry for the token young guy who lost his job so Cisco could defend letting me & 5 other guys over 50 go.

In my BU, of the 20+ people let go in my pay grade, 5 were 50+, 10 were 40+ & 5 were under 35-40. Funny how all the remaining people in my BU’s pay grade that were kept was one token guy over 50 & a bunch of 30-35 yr olds. Numbers don’t lie.

But it’s not worth it to fight because you signed an arbitration clause when you were hired.

I recall seeing in ‘17 that a lady laid-off in ‘16 was able to fight the arbitration clause & go to court for wrongful termination, not age or s-x discrimination, but I never saw/heard the case results.

Take the money & use it well instead of wasting it. It’s why Cisco has a generous package. Pay a little more up front & avoid lengthy expensive fights later.

You'll spend more $$$ trying to fight this. And although there will be some shady lawyers who say they'll take it up, what's in it for you? Continued employment with Cisco ?

Cisco has spent years fine-tuning their legal exposure on LRs. They've taken advantage of any and all legal loopholes.

I would clarify - Cisco has worked hard to make sure they are obeying the letter of the law regarding the demographics of people laid off. They have made sure that they are not exposed to such a lawsuit.

Agree with first comment. They've done nothing illegal, so accept the package and move on. Was LR'd myself, you'll get over it and feel better this time next year. It's not the end of the world. Despite how you feel right now, just accept it and move on. It's not worth dwelling on it, it happened, you can't go back, and worse things are going to happen in all of our lives. No one gets out of here alive.

Dude just s--- it up and move on. Happened to me last year. Getting legal advice and suing isn't going to get your old job back. Being let go s---s. I agree. But Cisco isn't breaking any laws letting people go. I know it seems that way but they aren't. If so seeing how frequently they do lrs someone would have taken it to the news by how but that hasn't happened? Why? Because everything Cisco is doing is perfectly legit. Man up. Don't be little cry baby. Take a day or two to reflect on your situation, get your ducks in a row and then go get a new and better job. If you do get an attorney just remember Cisco has an entire team of HR legal lawyers waiting to answer your call and make you their b--ch.
