The misuse of ECA’s

The Enterprise Cloud Architects were supposed to be a stable link with key accounts. As we well know, sales reps and their territories change every year; customers hear a ton of promises in may, just to see a new face in july telling them their are now his account, and making new promises that won't be fulfilled as well. The ECA role was an attempt to break that cycle, by having a deep technical person (and most were, in fact) across the fiscal years, building relationship.

Beautiful theory of course, but let's not forget, this is Oracle we're talking about, so most ECAs were being used to try and push SaaS into these customers, even though most, if not all, have a tech / PaaS background. Also, they were getting pressured to meet sales quotas, which is the most ridiculous thing in the planet, because A) they don't receive sales commissions, and B) how can you be a trusted advisor, if you're supposed to be pushing licenses to make the Q number?

More than one year gone from Oracle, and definitely don't miss it…

There were good, competent people in the KAD ranks and incompetent jerks because oracle has never care to manage behaviors only cares about sales. This allows a-holes who score others on the team to show good results at least for a while. On any event nobody in the sales org ever got fired for being a jerk, only for not hitting their quotas.

We know one KAD (Atlanta based) used to manage large media accounts in North East who target other Sales Reps and SC's to maintain his own targets/commissions. He don't like ECA/REP's taking a lead with the customers and building relations.

ECA did not favour by closing deal. Oracle is salesman driven org. Everyone works for salesman be it competent or not.

I saw an ECA close a deal because am incompetent sales rep couldn’t. Guess who got all the commissions?

Misuse of Enterprise Architect is everywhere. They book meeting rooms, draft business plan and pipeline for KADs, balmed for customer not meeting Oracle team, publish minutes of meetings. Catch all for all blame are ECAs and no one else but spineless ECA managers are to be blamed. These useless managers are allowing this abuse to happen.

I saw an ECA being misused. He was being asked to get coffee for the KAD and sales teams during a meeting in Chicago.

Lobbying here for ECA would not help. Few days back there was thread on Key accounts and that also looked like a lobby thread.

The information is important that ECA is going away. Act on this info.

  1. Lookout for new opportunities

  2. Let your circle know to skip Oracle as future employeer-no people to hire would make jobs of those in company last little longer.

Help each other.My view on the situation.

Oh, dear, you seem to be laboring under the misguided belief that the 3 stooges: (1) care and (2) have brains and (3) have a strategy they are implementing. Let me disabuse you of this notion - the stooges are just plain 3 bozos sort of like the eponymous clown, doing one stupid thing after another. And by definition they do things that are increasingly more id--tic. How do companies fail? First slowly and then very, very fast. The second derivative of oracle’s curve is negative and increasing.
