Thread regarding Union Pacific Corp. layoffs

What’s next... Oh yeah... mass hiring

So when is corporate going to start to panic... because they will... and just like last cutting season, UP had to do mass hiring and give out incentives to bring people in. Why don’t the management team ever learn from past mistakes? You know it’s like someone hitting their own thumb with a hammer, you would think that after smashing it good, they would stop putting there thumb on the head of the nail! But for some reason UP loves to smash their thumb over and over again!

Yes, but they're going to close down Cold Connect (Railex). It failed.

I bet we merge with another railroad probably csx and then the sh-- hits the fan. Don’t we own railx or some refrigerated produce company from out east?

They’re all filing down. The people that are cut. None of them are seeing the lay-offs. Certainly not the ones with enough seniority to retire. Always have some excuse for sticking it out. I hope they rehire people. Get rid some of these older people so younger people can get our piece of the pie!

Except this time is a little different. There will be no mass hiri g next year, it will be more like 3-4 years from now when the damage is long done and Lance is loooong gone with his $$$$ in his pockets. As IT found out, the other VPs have no say. Lance doesn’t care what is best for determining who is let go, it’s who he says. Who cares the impact. And as for rehiring, those left behind, it’s going to be a looooong time before you see a reward for sticking it out. Is it worth it?

I think it’s funny that the engineering department did their 30% and think , yep we are done with layoffs, we hit the mark. So foolish. Lance isn’t done with you, not by a longshot. When will people learn? He lies. Alllll the way to the bank.

You are absolutely right. The railroad is cyclical. Lay offs today, college recruiting and hiring hundreds of employees in six to nine months. Of course they will hire young people with an attractive salary. Half the salary of course of long term employees, who were also once young and stupid and saw the $$$$'s. That is, until, those once young employees become 15 to 20 year employees that cost the company too much. Todays college recruits, will be tomorrows lay offs. Mark my words.
