Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

Why doesn't Amazon hire some Oracle DB people?

It seems to me that Amazon could easily hire the Oracle DB people out from under Oracle. Right? They've got the money and the future to tempt the right people.

And if the current Oracle DB people are just leftover posers, maintaining what was written before them, then couldn't Amazon track down some really good Oracle DB developers?

Seems like they could just do that.

I don't think Amazon will have any interest in Oracle. They will develop their own db and then what would they need Oracle for?

Amazon is the future. Oracle is the past. Old tech, old attitudes, old management. Prediction: Oracle will continue to erode, like DEC did, until it is acquired by Amazon.

That's great. My money is on Amazon. They have the resources to get good employees.

Someone said that Amazon is a sweatshop. Competent people can enjoy that kind of environment. I have always been a developer that likes to work really hard to achieve something. I was definitely not a good fit for Oracle's country clubbers.

Kyle H is doing performance. Andrew H is doing DB performance. Both ex-Oracle.

Years of not being appreciated and given no raises while having to endure endless F-bombs under TK’s ruthless leadership has definitely motivated this group.

There are definitely ex-Oracle RDBMS developers at AMZN.

And they probably hate Oracle and are really motivated to beat the c-ap out of them.

They are hiring people from Oracle. What makes you think they're not? They're just very selective and most people can't pass their thorough interview process, but some do and are made offers.

What makes you think Amazon would want Oracle people? They're doing just fine right now without them.

there's got to be some good people out there that Amazon could snatch up. Every idea that these guys implemented at Oracle, could probably be made better the second time around.
